Rear Clunking

I just put in new Shocks and Struts all the way around, along with 2" lowering springs, and the back right side is clunking. I thought it was the shock top bouncing off the metal washer, so I ordered the shims from CFM and sadly they did not help. I took a not-so-fun ride in the back seat with my head in the trunk to see if I could hear it and it sounds like the spring moving around? I've only driven for about 60 miles with the new setup but the sound is killing me. The new springs didn't come with the bump stops that the stock setup has so I didn't transfer them over to the back . Could that be the sound I'm hearing? The spring bouncing around and clanking on the metal top? Thanks in advance.

Stefan

Do you mean the thick piece of rubber that fits on the top of the rear springs? I did my springs recently and had to transfer it over - not a sound on my end.

That's exactly what I meant, looks like that's whats on my agenda for tomorrow. Thanks! I'll need to get a new alignment again once I take the spring out and put it back in right?

I'm not so sure about needing another alignment. It's only about a centimetre thick after all.

Keep us updated because I have the exact same problem.. The shims didn't do anything, i've monkeyed with the shock as much as I can.. The only telltale sign I can see is there are marks on the shaft of the shock piston near the top that would indicate it was banging against something...

What does the clunking sound like? Mine is a higher pitched metallic rattling over low speed bumps/dips/potholes.

That's exactly how mine sounded, so I figured the shims would help, but it ended up being that I had to put the bumpstops back onto the rear springs. The sound was just the springs vibrating metal on metal.
