Townfair tire PROBLEM

So last year I went to town fair tire to get new tires because I only bought my car with studded snow tires on it. So i picked up a wheel/tire package for like $977. It came with cheaper tires $99 per tire rated for 50k miles. Free tire rotation also. So I did my tire rotations, got an alignment when they were put on, and got an alignment after winter when i put them back on for the summer. Total distance driven on them was about 16k.... They are bald. wtf. So i go in today and told them and they came out and looked at my tires, sure enough they were bald, The guy brings me inside and says he can give me a credit for them.... $212 towards new tires.

I just looked at him and said Ill be back. I am planning on calling the coporate office. If i get anything back it will be a cash refund and ill go elsewhere. When i bought them the sales guy told us that if they wore out too quickly and i did everything required (alignment/rotations) then they would just get replaced...

I did the math. i only used the tires for 32% what they were rated for. So shouldn't that mean if i were to get a credit I would only be expected to pay for 32% of the tires? which is like a little over $120 and get the rest, $280 in a refund instead of this random $212? idk... I'm a little pissed.

I'm not meaning to be unsympathetic, but there are several lessons to be learned here.
First, do NOT believe everything the sales person says, READ the fine print.
Second, buy the best tires you can possibly afford, your life, and maybe someone else's life, is riding on them.
Third, cheap tires are like Midas mufflers, they each make their money on the installation.
That said, It is worth a try to get satisfaction from Town Fair Tire, in a dispassionate, logical and reasoned explanation to them, as you have set it out in your first post. And don't stop with the assistant manager, or the store manager. If you don't get a reasonable explanation and satisfactory result, go as high up the organizational ladder as you can, that is, district manager, regional manager, etc.
Good Luck.

your math most likely doesn't match theirs. Every shop has a different pro rate system and thats what they are going to use. good luck trying to get more it might work it might not. You should just take the $212 and be happy you got something from them, as there are A lot of tire places that wouldnt even consider this.

Townfair tire is only good when you go there and tell em exactly what you want.

But even then, I went down with my 17's on my lowered 1.5 inch 03 zx3, and I said I wanted 205/45/R17, he said no way they wouldn't fit.

And then he went on to say if I wanted that tire size, that I would have to go down to 16 inch rims, that he of course tried to sell me, I said you know nothing about cars, and went to the other one near me that apparently deals with lowered cars more.

They gave me exactly what I wanted, with no argument of it being able to fit.

Townfair tire is only good for rims, get your tire's somewhere else. I called corporate that day about the other guy, and he now no longer works there for trying to play the lying sale's man game like he did.

Check your paperwork from the original purchase (you kept it didn't you?). The details of the warranty and the formula for the pro-ration is usually in those documents. If not, ask them how they did their calcs and question any voodoo math. Any reimbursement is usually based on the value of the original tire (not current cost). I've never heard of retailers making cash refunds, only credit toward new tires. Technically a tire is not worn until it reaches the wear bars. If one or more of the tires is not below the wear bar they can be jerks and tell you to come back when they do, or they will adjust the pro-ration for the tires not completely worn out (meaning you'll get slightly less for each of those tires).

what tires did you get?

did they prorate it off the price you paid when you got the tires, or the price the tires are now?

is your car lowered? if so, do you have a proper camber kit?

being in the tire business for 7 years now, there are ALOT of varibles that determine tire wear....and the majority of abnormal tire wear is lack of tire maintence or mechanical wear. But, yes, sometimes it is just simply a cheap piece of shit tire.

I have always advised my customers to get the best tire they can afford, and always will.
