Adjusting parking brake on automatic

I have an '02 sedan that i put new brake shoes on not too long ago. I find that now my parking brake doesnt hold very well. It may not have held well before, i just never really paid attention to it until i worked on my brakes (i don't bother using the brake in an auto unless i'm on a pretty good incline).

I know the shoes are adjusted correctly; the drums fit on very snug when i reassembled them. But i can yank as hard as possible on my parking brake and it seems to apply very little stopping power.

I saw a diagram of someone taking off the center console in a manual to adjust the tensioning bolt under the leather boot, but the auto console is quite a bit different and i'm not sure how to get it apart.

Anyone know an easy way to get to that bolt, or at least anything else I should be looking at?

There is nothing different about the console. If you have the armrest its just a couple extra bolts. You could try just pulling the boot up. Pinch it in on the side about 0.5-0.75ish inch from the ends on each side. Should pull up.
