I have a tire question about my Focus ZX5

I currently have 205/55R/16 studded winter tires on my car and because I am in University and funds are depleted I couldn't afford new tires. That's why I am currently driving my 'old mule' 97 Ford Explorer

Someone offered to sell me some good condition used 205/55R16/89V Bridgestone==Potenza tires, but I don't know what the 89V stands for so I don't know if they would fit my 2003 Focus ZX5 5 door hatch?

I know nothing about tires and have no idea if these tires would fit or if they are half decent tires. None of my local tire shops sell Bridgestone Potenza or any Bridgestone tires of any kind so I couldn't compare.

If there is anyone out there who could help solve the mystery that would be great

Moved to "Wheels, Tires, Brakes & Suspension - Sponsored By Tire Rack"

the 89v is the load and speed rating. They will work find on your car.

Bridgesone's in general are typically expensive and quality tires. Make sure they have enough tread left on them that you are not spending money on spent tires.

I am sorry I posted in the wrong thread :(
And thanks for your answer.
I knew it would be no mystery for the people who know anything about tires. Of course I am not one of those people... ;o)

There are several Bridgestone Potenza models so some more info is needed before we can comment on a particular tire. Check Tireracks website, click on tire brands, select Bridgestone and you'll see what's currently available in that model. You can then go to their tire reviews and see what people have to say about that model. My advise is to not overpay. Used tires do not have much value because you don't know how they were driven, cared for, abused, etc. In addition to tread condition, check the sidewalls inside the carcus as well as the outside. You don't want to see any bulges etc. which can mean the sidewall belts have been damaged by pot holes etc. 205/55-16 is a very common tire size so check around. The stock tire size, however, is 205/50-16, so you can look for that tire size as well. Either size will work just fine.

Thank you so much for all the information on what to look out for when buying used tires.
Especially since we have tons of pot holes around Manitoba and I've dammaged tires and rims on more than one occation because of them

I will definitely have a very close look at the tires before I buy them
