Are all steelies the same (winter tires?)

Hi -

I have a 2000 Focus that came with winter tires, but no winter rims.
So I need to get some steelies for winter...

Are all steelies the same in quality? Should I look for Ford OEM ones, does it make any difference? How can I tell...

Many thanks.

It's a steel wheel...don't worry about Ford OEM.

Any focus wheel will do, I'm assuming its a 15" tire you have (195/60.15 most likely.) Just spend the next several months searching your area craigslist or kijiji to find a set. Steel or alloy will work.

Thanks guys for the replies.

I remember when I had my Civic I bought the Honda steelies at the dealer, they were silver instead of black in color and someone told me they were better quality than the regular black ones.

Is 75$ for a set of 4 used 15" black steelies a good used price? 2 winters little bit of rust? Or what would be a good general price used - thanks again...

Most major retailers sell steel rims from various manufacturers. In addition to the proper diameter and lug pattern, make sure they have the proper offset range as well. I've seen some come with very low offsets (less than 42mm). As mentioned, there's people selling 15" and 16" OE alloys all the time and sometimes for less than a new set of steel ones cost.

That would be a good idea too if I could get alloys at a good price.

What do you think ball-park a used set of OEM Focus alloy would cost...just approx...?

Thanks.

I've seen them go here (sell trade section) for 200.00 (shp not inc.) or so for a set of 5x2 spoke 15" stock alloys.

Kenny u-pull Ottawa, 120 Bentley Ave (off Merivale) just south of Huntclub, if you can find a set of 4, size doesn't make a difference, $22.49 for alloy, $4.99 for a steel rim. Pretty hard to beat that.

I know they just put 5 or 6 gen 1 focus in the yard within 2 weeks, some had wheels, mostly alloy, but some had steelies. They normally have tires on them, and you have to pay for the tires as well, but if you return the tires they give you a yard credit, then you can look around for other things you might like to have (I know they had a Ford focus hood deflector in there last week, trim pieces, fog lights, switches, coils...).

Just so you know tires are $17.49, just so you don't get a shock. What some people do is buy 1 rim with tire, go to Canadian tire have them remove the tire they are going to return, and then use the credit against the next one, go get it removed, and continue thru the 4 rims you want, that way you only have a $17.49 credit at the end of it instead of $70 credit.
