17" wheel with tires

To those with 17" wheels what size tires do you have on them. i am getting new 17" wheels and wanted to know what a good size tire i can use. I want a little more cushion because the roads i drive on are not very good. My thoughts were 215/45/17 but i was thinking i could go to a 215/55/17. Any help?

I use 215/45/17 on mine and there fine. I drive over bumps and other things though I try my very best to avoid them. Very good in my opinion.

Go with 215 45 otherwise you will have to re-calibrate the speedometer or you will have to know how much it is off and will affect it.

The 215/45/17 is the correct size for the factory 17. Your speeding will be more accurate than us on the factory 16s with the correct size.

If you go to 1010tire.com and use their tire size calculator you can input what ever size you want and it will show you just how much of a difference there will be and show you who makes the tires in that size

I just put on 17x7 wheels (pictures soon to come) and wrapped them in 215/45. I have my car lowered on Eibach springs and the wheels and tires fill the wheel-wells perfectly. And now, I have my 18" wheels and tires for sale in the classified section.

205/45-17 is the ideal size as its the same diameter as stock 15 and 16" tires. The 215/45-17, however, are the widely used and was the stock size on the Focus SVT. It's only a half inch bigger in diameter which results in little to no sizing issues. There's also much better selection in the 215 size.
