Thumbs down SVT rear caliper help GRRR

Okay, So i bought the tool that looks like a cube. you twist it to the right to turn the caliper piston back in. ive been turning it for the past hour and it just seems to spin and spin. its like 3/4 the way in, and the remaining 1/4 wont go any further.

i tried spinning it the other way to make sure im not retarded, but that was teh wrong way.


am i doing something wrong here?

Ive never used that tool. I always just grab some giant lock-jaw pliers and squeeze the hell out of the piston against the caliper.

you are not supposed to clamp it. the piston screws in. I have an SVT

I had to push REALLY hard while turning it a few times to get it to go back in. I just used some channel lock pliers but only because I didn't have the cube but I had the caliper off the car and clamped in a vice. Also, my brake hose was disconnected so the fluid had a place to go. Try opening your bleeder valve if its on the car or unscrewing the hose if its off.

still wont go in enough for me to be able to put the pads on.

i bought the pads MKD886 from autozone. im pretty sure they are right

Use the cube, as you have been. Apply pressure while turning, just as you have been.

Don't use clamps on these calipers.

Don't disconnect brake lines or unscrew bleeder valves.

DO take the cap off the master cylinder. That should relieve any pressure building up through the lines.

Go slow- as not to spurt brake fluid out of the master cylinder. FYI- brake fluid is both flammable, and a paint killer.

ok so i got both rear brakes done, but the boot of the piston on the left rear seems to have a slit, and slightly drips.

took the car for a spin and the brake pedal sinks low. i can slam on the brakes and i dont come to a screeching stop. can i replace the piston? or do i have to get a whole new caliper?

and should i take it to get it done, or is it pretty easy to bleed the system? I have a one man bleeder system, but had a bad experience with my civic.

i think what may have happened is when i turned it to the left, to see if it would work i must have raised it too high and let some air in, should i just try and bleed the system first>?

A one-man bleeder will do the majority of the process (I have several different varieties), but to get a really FIRM pedal, it takes two people, one to work the pedal and one to work each bleeder valve.

Svt rear brake pads

But yeah when bleeding your brakes I agree with Racer1735 that you'll have better luck with 2 people than yourself.
