What is the widest tire I can fit on my car?

Looking for some new tires. Found a set of used 225 60R 16. Can I put these on my stock 16s with out rubbing?

oh no way in hell will those fit, sorry, thats a size that typically fits on fullsize cars.

if you wanna go wider the biggest size you can fit would be 215/45/16

The 225/60/16 is what my wife has on her 01 grand am gt and i was looking at them and they are pretty wide to fit a focus there just isn't a lot of room down there for a much bigger tire. Although i do have the SVT suspension so that would make a little difference.

I was told that I could fit up to 255s on my SVT. The man who told me that should be shot! I knew that those wouldnt fit so I got 225/45/17 for my SVT, I still rubbed. I had to take a baseball bat and roll the underside of my fender to accommodate for the 10mm extra of tire. So i'd stick with the 215s.

On stock 16" wheels 205 is basically as wide as you can go. There's room for more, but the wheel isn't wide enough. A 215/50/16 is approved for our stock wheels, but it tall enough you probably wouldn't want it. There are several existing threads about wide tires on aftermarket wheels.

you can put as wide of wheels as you want, you will just have to get much larger fenders!!! Widebodies are an option and you can go out to 235's, in the rear, you "could" put as wide as you want, just be prepared for understeer.

those will rub, i'm extremely surprised the 225's aren't rubbing. if you were on a 40% tire, then it would make sense, but 45 is just too much.

let me guess you got the 16 inch rims, (aka premium tire package>, and you just found out how ridiculously high priced the 205 50 16 is. So you figured, I'll just put something wider on if you have to spend that kinda money or used. The cheapest set that you can put on your focus, and not mess up the speedometer and smoothness of your ride, and is A LOT easier to find new or used or on sale is a 205 55 16 its a little bit narrower and a little bit taller <same size thats on the focus 15in. wheel <except on a 15>. The good is your car will ride smoother. The bad you wont be able to corner as well if your racing but we are talking mm here <daily driving your OK>. I had the same problem when my zx3 needed tires those DAMN 205 50 16 are STUPID EXPENSIVE. so i put a used set of the 55s on and started hunting a steal of a deal on focus svt spec rims <17 inch> and a deal on the 215 45 17 you could go 40s or even 18 inch and 35s but you will loose A LOT OF COMFORT.But in Hawaii i would go with the 55s until you can get the 17 inch with the 215 45 17s and i would get ones with rain channels where your at. your car would drive WAY better than it ever has and you r speedometer will be correct.

the 205/55 and the 205/50 are the same width the 55's are just a little taller. I'm running 205/55/16 on my focus and i haven't had a problem yet.
