Tighten those strut mount nuts properly!!

Just a tidbit for ya'll. Be sure to tighten the three nuts retaining the strut mount to the strut tower to spec... I left mine a bit looser than usual thinking it didn't matter. Well as of late the car seemed to be a bit off, like it would wander a bit and stuff just felt loose. Went to tighten the nuts down to spec and snapped one of the studs completely in half. Kinda pissed. Turns out not having them tightened down properly allowed some side to side movement of the strut itself weakening the studs as it went. Glad one didn't shear on the freeway. So anyway. New bearings and plates for both sides goin on tomorrow. Learned my lesson...

Edit: Updated with some pics.

One of these is not like the other. hmmmm...

Oh so nice! Got it out and discovered they went ahead and upped the strength grade on the new studs! From 8.8 to 10.9! Thanks Ford!

of course it didn't help because it was loose... go skydiving without the parachute tight and see what doesn't work then.

Eh I will be getting the parts from Ford in tomorrow. For once dealer parts were actually less expensive than from a parts store. Weird huh. Gonna do both sides just because. Lucky its a relatively easy fix.

Kinda puzzling but nice. Got the old ones off and look at the back head of the studs... The old ones are an 8.8 grade stud and the new ones are a 10.9 grade. Wonder if this has happened before. lol.

I heard about someone else on here with the same issue just this week. I'm checking mine tomorrow. Do you know the torque spec for those?
