Tire Size Help 235/40/17??? Will Rep

OK, I ust bought used 17" KOBE "Race 10" rims. The old owner (had a focus) had 235/40/17 Kumho Escta ASX on the rear tires and 205/40/17 on the front. I need new rear tires because they look like racing slicks when i bought them. Ill try a post pictures of the rear because these tires are crazy worn. Im scared of having them in the same room as me lol (boom!!!!). I really don't know what size to get.

What tire size should I buy?
Should I get 205/40/17??? They are the cheapest at $59 for Kumho AST

get 215/40/17s.. they fit well and arent going to be much taller than the super short 205/40s.. you will have better handling and better traction and feel the bumps less.

i wouldnt go with 215/45/17s because they are going to be over an inch taller than 205/40/17s..

and dont put on 235/40/17s either. its more expensive, tall, heavy, and wont add much traction.

I recommend 215/45-17. They are the most popular size for a Focus (and stock tire size on SVT's) for many reasons. They are within a few tenths of an inch in overall diameter of other stock focus tire sizes including 15 and 16" ones. There is a lot of selection in this size, they retain good performance characteristics, and provide good rim/wheel protection from the slight increase in sidewall height.

215/40/17 is an excellent choice for a street tire. especially for a 7" rim.
you don't need to go much wider unless these are your race wheels ( autocross / track days) or it's a show car.

um, not really, the 2xx number is the width of the tire, the 40 is the sidewall height, so a 215/45/17, 225/45/17, and heck a 375/45/17 will all be the same height, just have diffrent tire widths.

i would go w/ the 215/45/17's thats what the svt runs, its what i run, and they work perfectly.

No thats not right.. Yes the 45 is height but its the height/% of the width. So 215/45/17 smallest 225/45/17 middle 375/45/17 HUGE

Lol well the tire guy is wrong! The middle number is the % of the width. Even though the numbers are the same since the tire is wider the side will be larger.
