front bearings

Looks like I need to start planning for a new set of front bearings in my '01 SE w/out ABS. It is sounding like a 4wd w/ AT's.

In looking at what's available, I can get bearings, or a bearing/hub repair kit. I'm thinking I only need the bearings?

As I understand it, the bearings are pressed into the steering knuckle. How does the hub with lugs fit in? Does it just slide in? I pulled the axle nut the other day prodding around and the hub wouldn't budge.

I can handle getting the knuckles out, just not sure about installing the bearing.

it is always best to switch out the hub and the bearing when i did mine. the bearing actually messed up the hub. napa has them for $108. i took mine apart and you have to take the calipers off, then the rotor comes off, remove the steering joint, pull the hub off. take to a pro to have the new hub and bearing installed. whats kick ass is you get a warranty also for future damage.

they say you can use a large diameter socket to pound it on. that sound like it would be a very bad idea. might damage the bearings and your out 50-108 dollars
