Eap Svt 17"

As I have posted in another thread,my AWESOME wife bought me the 2003 EAP 17" Dark Argent SVT Focus rims for our anniversary. Now it is up to me to buy some tires for them and slap them bad boys on my ride. After some browsing, of friends cars w/ rims, I was left with confusion. I came on here to see what others preferred and am still perplexed. I looked on the stickied thread and it stated...

Ideal Tire Sizes:
17" - 205/45/17

but it also said...

SVTF Ideal Tire Sizes:
17" - 215/45/17 (stock)

My question is since these are the SVT rims should I go with 215/45/17? I do like the look of a tire with a good amount of rubber.Due to our big fender wells I want to take as much of that room as possible.
Also what does everybody prefer? Is there really that much difference between sizes? Please let me know.

215/45/17 is the size you want. If you're slammed you may wanna look at the 215/40/17 size. I have them and it fill out the fender just fine and dandy. I think it'd look bad with the 205/45/17....

I went from 215/45/17 to 215/40/17 and I like the new ones a lot better.
My tires used to rub with the 45's, and I've got a 1.8" drop.
Hasn't rubbed a single time with the 40's, plus the gearing is a little better.

I dont have a drop as of yet but I do plan on getting one.Maybe something with a 1" drop. I have heard how people really like the SVT suspension so I might go that route.

How was the driving different with the 45 than with the 40? I wont be auto crossing or any extreme drifting or nascar racing. I just have a daily driver looking for the best ride with the best grip.

You would want 215?40?17 as lildisco said if you drop it. if you keep it stock or maybe 1" lower, you may still want to keep the 215/45/17's. One advantage, the 40 series tires will free up a tad bit more power than the 45's, being a little shorter. Thats what im running, 215/40/17's BFG T/A KDW's. Every little bit helps when youre looking at getting the power to the ground. Since youre already running a SVT, i have the Ford Racing springs that will lower it 1". PM me if youre interested.

I have a 225. I And I will not get any lower. Lots of pot holes pop during rain around here. Bigger tires really help.

Do you mean since I am already running the SVT rims?

Oh, my bad, i read that wrong, the springs would lower yours 1.5", but you would also want to do the FRPP strut kit as well. If you did that, i would assemble them for you so you could just install the whole new setup.

I'm running a 215/45/17 on stock svt suspension setup. These are Azenis RT-615s on lightweight Superleggeras. The handling is fantastic and I can only imagine it being better once I lower it next spring.

Mike, I may have to take that offer on the FRPP kit myself as well. But not this soon.

FYI....225 is not how much tire there is, that's how wide the tire is. a 45 series tire is bigger or how much tire there is than a 40 series tire from the rim to the outside of the tire.
