Question winter tire question

hey, im looking at getting winter tires, NEXEN 16's for the stock 16 inch rims for the focus, currently i am running the 5 spoke 17's off the svt with low profile tires and those wont hold up, is it worth it to invest in the winter tires, or should i just run the p6 all seasons that are still on my 16's?

if you got good tread left on your 16's then you will be fine

snow tires are always a good investment and offer more grip in the winter months, but if the p6 are still in good shape then go for it, just take it easy

there is only about 10000km on the tires, but they did slip last winter, im in the toronto area and it can get quite snow covered and icy, plus i may be moving to the east coast where it's even worse, so i'm thinking of making the investment now?

Something to consider;
it is not just the tread design or wear level that influences winter tire performance, but compound hardness. The lower the temp gets, even in the absence of snow or slush build-up, the harder it is for summer/all season tires to maintain good tackiness and road grip. Here in northern alberta, my summer tires are almost undrivable before the snow ever flies due to extreme cold, turning that tacky rubber into big hard plastic tires lol.

Snow tires are head and heels better than an all season tire. All-season tires are a compromise at best. You won't regret using a dedicated snow tire. Even the cheaper ones like Firestone/Bridgestone Winterforce's or General Tire' snow tire are very good (I have both) got them for Tirerack. The General Tire (altimax artic?) might be the better of the two I mentioned. Hankook makes a nice inexpensive snow tire as well.

I just had General Altimax HP A/S tires from tirerack put on my car. Nice tire so far. (125 miles ) Guess I can't say a darn thing about how it is in snow, yet, but I'll sure know by January, and maybe before.

I can assure you the general snow tire is quite a bit different than their all-season tires. Its made by a Swedish tire company.....those Scandinavians know a thing or two about winter driving.
