Brake Fluid

I was just wondering what fluid I should use. I was planning on changing it soon and didn't know weather or not I should upgrade to DOT 5? I don't even know if there is any difference other than temperature rating?

DOT3 or DOT4 is the most you'll need for street use. The manual calls for DOT3 IIRC.

This should actually be posted in the "Wheels, Tires, Brakes, and Suspension" section btw

Go with Valvoline Synpower. Very good fluid for cheap. Its a DOT4. I would not go to DOT5 as it is actually silicon base and does not absorb water. DOT4 is more than enough.

Personal opinion I guess, I was keeping it exclusive to SVT's, sorry!

I moved this thread last night...
The specific areas (SVT, ZETEC, Duratec, SPI) are for "engine performance, tuning and exhaust related upgrades."
Brake questions go right where this is now.

Do not use DOT 5 on the street!
Being silicone based, it will destroy the seals in your system.
Meaning...permanent damage to the ABS pump and proportioning valve.

DOT4 is all you'll ever need.
The previously recommended Valvoline Synpower is a great choice.
Another worthy fluid is Castrol LMA.

RACEBLUE BABY !!!

Alternate with Ford Gold.

Both are DOT 4 with boiling thresholds above 570 degrees. Also, when you flush the system, alternate brands. It is VERY easy to see that you are done because the color changes...
