Yeah, the boot goes over the strut rod. It's just there to keep dirt and moisture off the rod. So you'll have to take the strut mount, bearing, and spring seat back off so you can slip the boot on.

There should be a bump stop as well. It can be part of the boot or a separate piece that slides over the shaft. Its a very critical component. if one didn't come with the new struts use the ones from the struts your replacing.

i put the new bump stops on and the dust boot, is their a way to hold the dust boot down on the lower part of the strut? could i us a couple of zip ties on both struts? which way does the bump stop go, with the flat end at the top, like its pointing down the shaft of the strut? also is their supposed to be something under the bottom of the spring, looks like their should be but i dont know for sure?

Bump stop goes with the flat surface up. And as far as something going under the spring, it should be fine. Sometimes the bottom coil of the spring has a Plastic/rubber sleeve around it to prevent any squeaking

PM me with your email and I'll send a PDF page from the Ford Workshop Manual - its for a 2003 but the parts should be very similar in how they piece together
