Need tire advice

My 2006 Focus has just over 40,000 miles and i am finding myself in need of some new tires. Wisconsin winters are difficult to navigate on my bald pirelli's. It is an SES, so they are H rated p205 50 r16.

I just want a decent, inexpensive, all-season radial. Local options include my Ford dealer, Tires Plus, Walmart, and Fleet Farm (along with several locally owned shops).

From the little bid of searching I've done, it seems most major brands cost over 120 bucks per tire (with some exceptions), and some off brands come in at around 80 bucks a tire (I'm not including stems, balancing, disposal).

Only one tire has decent tread on it, so i will probably replace all four.

You can consider this but most people wont....
I got my tires off of ebay for 400 shipped.... They were brand new and I got them mounted on base for cheap.... I also got a warrenty on the for 75 bucks... I asKed the guy how much they were there.. $215 A PEICE...
The next weekend I had a nail in the side wall and they replaced the whole tire for free..... I was so happy... So You might want to check out deals on Ebay

2nd tirerack.com, for 16s shouldn't be too expensive, my 17s are usually under a hundred bucks a piece, and they have road hazard warrantee and good stuff like that too.

+1 for tirerack; have you considered running a winter and a summer set? i have a complete set of rims and tires for each season, and it allows me to run extremely good summer tires (General UHP 215/45/17) and good winter tires (Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 215/45/17), since you have a regular focus you could get some Winterforce MS studded winter tires in a 205/50/16 and get yourself a nice set fo 215/40/17 wheels and tires for the summer

Some fairly cheap all-seasons with an aggressive thread - Fuzion HRi's

Tire rack is a great place to buy or just research tires. They also have a list of approved installers in just about every state, along with the prices those installers will charge. You don't have to be embarressed any more for buying them on line and then trying to find someone who will install them (without ripping you off for not buying from them).

x2... both on doing summer/winter and on getting Winterforce for the winter. I got mine for $46/tire plus $40 shipping. I also got a used set of nice Kazera wheels and BFG g-force sport tires on the cheap, and next summer's tires were only $60/tire after shipping and rebate.

Look around for deals on the internet... tirerack.com, discouttire.com, google.com, etc...

but first check out tirerack.com's survey, it will help you decide which tire is right for you.

I went to tire rack. They had some good deals, but the local installers were on the pricey side. I went to a small local shop and they hooked me up with a set of Fuzions for $388. Every where else I went (tire rack included) I was staring at at least $450.

I'll let you know how they hold up.
