I just bought a set of those general UHPs because they were a tiny bit cheaper for me. I am interested in how they work out seeing as the Kumho's scored better in the tests.

^^^Good eye.
I know some people have reservations about Tire Rack's reviews (customer or otherwise),
but when it comes to their tests, the numbers tell the real story.

FWIW, other tires I considered:
(in no particular order...other than alphabetical)
Avon Tech M500
Falken FK-452
Falken ZE-912
Fuzion ZRI

I read a good many reviews stating that the large middle tread would get 'squirmy' in tougher cornering moves. But, they can't be squirmier than my 225 Falken 512's...

I'm on my second set of SPT's. Good compromise for DD/Autox. For the price this is a really good tire and holds up well to my abuse. I just picked up a set of dedicated track wheels so, eventually the SPT's will be just my DD's. For now though, these work. Curious to see how you like them...

They awesome IMO. My car is my DD, and sees occasional spirited driving - they are very impressive especially for the price. I havent had them long enough to judge tire wear, but so far I'm all smiles! I did quite a bit of research and aksing around before purchasing them as well, you cant go wrong with them.

Thanks for the responses.
Glad I put this thread out there.
I didn't realize there were that many FF members running these.

I'm heading down to the tire shop right now...won't have them on the road till sometime this PM.

I read a good many reviews stating that the large middle tread would gets 'squirmy' in tougher cornering moves.
Yeah, I see that, but if you look closely at my pics, you'll see that the more miles you rack up on these tires,
the smaller those grooves will get.
The center "ribs" are tapered. As they wear down, they will get wider.

Nonetheless, I've come to the realization that I don't need "STS trophy level" tire grip for the street anymore.

Edit:
No, seriously, I am heading down to the tire shop momentarily:
(just in case you're wondering...I threw on my winter set up for the run to the shop)

After 6,000 miles now, I'm still liking them a lot (for a daily driver).
Wet performance is outstanding, while dry is exceptionally good for a 320 treadwear tire.
Very smooth, and very quiet.
I'll give em an 8 for dry (when compared to a "perfect 10", the Falken Azenis RT-615), and a 10 for wet.

^^^I had that...for about the first 100-200 miles till the release compound wore off, and they got scuffed in a bit.
These tires take a very nice set in high speed (and low speed) turns.
No squirmage at all any more.
