Why wheel size matters

Here's a list of articles and threads that explains the virtues of proper wheel and tire size. If you read just a few of them you'll be able to make some very informative tire and wheel selection criteria. Have fun!

These come from the Miata.net wheel and tire forum. As you can tell these people are anal when it comes to proper tire and wheel selections.

^^^Yeah, nuts.
I'm sure there's great info there Geezer, but we can't see it.

I appreciate the posting, especially since the question of wheel size comes up so much.
What you need is the full address, and not a cut/paste from another forum.
When copying those links, make sure you right-click and "copy shortcut" to get the full address,
otherwise it's truncated and we go nowhere.

EDIT:
Ah ha.
A quick Google search, and voila...
Found where the original links all came from:
http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96891

Again Geezer, thanks for finding this!

EDIT-2:
Now that we have the links, it appears most of the Miata ones are dead:
Quote:
This archive is no longer available. All of the threads from this archive can be found at Miata Forum.
Unfortunately, it may be difficult to track down a broken link. (The links were broken when we switched from UBB software to vBulletin.)
It will require some searching on your part.

it's just too bad that these can't be exactly universal, because not all cars a built to handle the same with regards to the wheel/tire size.

Huh? Unsprung weight is unsprung weight. Any car will benefit from reducing unsprung weight. It doesn't matter whether it is a Corvette or a Focus, they will both benefit from having lighter wheels. Of course the Corvette has to use a heavier, wider wheel to be able to mount the massive rubber necessary to handle the Vette's power but they would go lighter if they could (can you imagine a $2,800 super light Vette wheel?).

The Second one was nuts, it's amazing what a little power to weight ratio can do, that thing was basically a four wheeled motorcycle, which would be pretty fun having driven a 250cc 6 speed shifter cart

I'm sorry my cut and paste didn't work. I wasn't aware things got lost in conversion. My bad. Here's the tread from the miata.net forum. Hopefully you can go there with this. I was able to open all those additional threads there. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Good info.. For all those poeple that want record smashers..

Me?
I could care less.. I like 18" rims, I can still go 110MPH on the autobahn with 18's as compareed to my 15's... So apples and oranges... Plus my 18's are .5 lbs more then the stock 15.. so egh.. i will have my turbo kit finishd in about 2 months.. then I really wont care.. persoanlly, im not out to break records or get there the fastest.. I like normal driving, with the ability to haul a little when needed, and the ability to hang a corner 3/4's like a bat out of hell..

The ride quality is hampered... but give and take...

Again though, Awsome info.. Thank you.

Dont edit my post, its legal to go 110mph here... Why is it a nono?? Its a unrestricted speed zone.. next time send me a pm please of why you are editing my post WD40.. And look into the laws of germany if you are doubting the speed of the autobahn.. there are restricted zones.. some as low as 80kph, and the RECOMENDED speed of 130kph.. i choose to drive 110... MPH.. around 180kph.. My car my life. its legal.
