Talking Hmm what DOES an SPI sound like w/ 2.25" piping and a disconnected muffler? (VIDS. MANY!)

SO yes a few of you may know we students in shop class became bored a few weeks ago, and started unhooking our mufflers. The first one to do it was an 08 Legacy STi ( think 08) that sounded freakin amazing after he did it, and he's keeping it that way. I tried to get a video but was too late.

second was myself..... oh yeah that was good fun. I disconnected on the section just before the muffler and clamped the two pipes together.

The videos don't do justice of what it sounded like...... So I must explain. Think of that deafening buzz coming from your bumpin subwoofer that just obliterates any possible noises. I get that in a continuous buzz anywhere between 1,300 and 2000 rpm. it really was that loud.

Now think of the loudest civic you've heard..... yeah it was a little louder.

this first video is probably the best, it doesn't sound bad on video but it was SO loud there.

this next one is on the side of my car, unfortunately taken with my cell phone camera. you can kinda tell just how loud it was by all the distortion.

the final video of MY car that is.... this one I did in my garage the morning I returned it to tolerable noise levels. (hence the not-revving-really-high-because-the-neighbors-were-still-asleep)

NOW...... unfortunately I did NOT get a video of what it sounds like with the windows open, so I found something ALMOST exactly like it, but not as loud.

YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

yes, no joke! you can ask anyone that's heard it in person, it sounds like a Cummins turbo diesel

SO the best part is for the week I had it, I passed MORE cops than I ever have in any single week, and did NOT get a ticket, and got MANY faces of bewilderment from fellow students in the parking lot SUCCESS!

I feel much better with a quiet exhaust. Only problem is, I have a thicker lead foot now that I don't make airplane noises with my foot barely on the gas. LOL.

FOR FINAL LAUGHS..... this is the third car we did: Some recent-year Honda Accord, which happens to have a header and high-flow cat hooked up to the stock exhaust (bit of a waste IMO but congrats for not making it ugly)

He undid that too.... this is what it sounds like with no exhaust tubing past the flex pipe. WTF right???

All in all, a good fun day and shop project at school

Definitely loud, but..one of these days, I have to take video of my buddy's Evo. Custom Y-pipe after the downpipe. A flip on the switch to open the port to straight exhaust, and the floor of the car vibrates hard.

And I got to drive a very loud Civic with VTAK last night. I'm a domestic guy, really, but...god damn VTAK is fun.

That actually doesn't sound all that bad for 2.25" straight pipe. I was gonna post a vid of me driving my friend's car with open header, but he removed the video off youtube.

that evo sounds like what mine felt like inside the car, considering the pipe exited right under my seats....

and no, it sounds GREAT on video Cy.... but in person it is so damn loud that I'd probably set a car alarm off, and I couldn't stand it anywhere between 1,200 and 1,800 rpm. Just felt like a constant droning bass tone that obliterated any other noise. LOL

Man, just watching your vid makes me want to get a magnaflow already. But I also want to put my old HKS muffler back on, and make it angle like the one for the ZX3.
