CV axle to be avoided

I recently needed a new driver side CV axle - my boot had torn, oil was everywhere, dirt got in and the axle died.

I went to autozone and got a new duralast CV axle - part number 9369N.

I do not know about the passenger side - may be the same story and it may not.

This axle is to be avoided at all costs. Mine was about 2-3 inches too short. Although it worked, the inner boot was stretched to all getout. I was worried about boot failure down the road. Appearantly this is not an unherdof occurance at autozone.

I would avoid duralast branded CV axles, CV joints.

Also avoid their ratchets. Had a 3/8 ratchet last less than a months - used all of 4 times and not that hard.

Ther batteries do hold up decently - but I have a new policy of avoiding their parts.

was it the correct part? the parts guy at my work had a similar issue, it ended up being an automatic(?) axle instead of a manual.

Fortunately, I live near an indie place that specializes in transaxle...
AutoZone is to be avoided for anything that isnt in a can, in a bottle or you are willing to risk your money on.

Ahem. sorry.

It was the correct part - I double checked it when I turned it in, and online myself. Maybe autozone does not differentiate between automatic and manual in their parts listing - but that is their problem.

Anywho - I hope this hangs around for anyone else out there who buys an axle - is like "huh" when they have it all installed and done, and it looks wrong, types something into google along the lines of "ford focus CV axle too short" or "autozone CV axle too short" or "duralast CV axle too short". They will find this and know that they are not crazy.

parts chains like AZ use regional axle rebuilders then they get labled as their own part. Some rebuilders are better than others & this does not hold true for AZ nationwide. If you take it back to them, they can correct the problem I am sure.

Auto and manual Zetec axles ARE the same.

Sounds to me like the wrong axle was in the box or something.

So what is a good CV axle brand that doesn't pose this problem?

I had to replace my passenger side axle from them because it didnt seal into the trans right allowing it to let the trans fluid drain.
