the svt block itself

how much power can the block handle? i'm not worried about the rods and pistons etc.

also, while on the subject, how about the tranny? i'm not worried about the clutch, flywheel, just the tranny itself.

The block itself is pretty powerful, ive heard of people pushing 700-800 hp with the block as is. the zetec block is a stout little thing. where as your tranny is not so stout, the general consensus is to put the regular 5sp focus tranny in. it will hold more power.

In the Dyno posts. People are daily driving with 320+whp and not a single issue.

The block itself is the same as a zetec block. Theyre still stout for what they are. Theyre safe to about 400 hp.

I thought there was a difference in the blocks though, to accomodate the piston oil squirters.

EDIT - Just answered my own question.
Yes, there is a difference between the blocks.
From this thread:
Tom, you're about to build an engine for me...

Question:
Can I supply a ZX3 block for my SVTF and have the $85 piston oil squirter option added? ZX3 blocks are far more available than SVTFs. Plus, why buy expensive internals for no reason??
Answer:
You cannot add the squirters to the ZX3 block

There are provisions for the squirters but the block itself is the same. Ford doesnt have but one part# for the zetec blocks. I guess if you have a svt and want to change the blocks, i assume that you would have to drill and tap the block for the squirters. I have thought about this before and did wonder about that. Im going to check one other thing right quick. Im going to run my vin# and see if the Ford site shows any difference. BRB

Ok guys, here it the info straight from a guy i just talked with at Ford. The svt block is only on the svt and is made different. He said that he didnt know "everything" that was different but that it had different or more oil gallies than the standard zetec block. I have a part number from the original block but they cant be bought. They werent just drilled and tapped for the sqirters but actually cast different. This is as best he could tell me because he didnt know all of what was different but did know what he was talking about (obviously, working for Ford). The block may be stronger but he didnt know and i couldnt tell you from building both, to me they appear the same with the exception of the squirters. They are completely interghangeable though. I thought that they had been out of the svt engines but he informed me that they still have several if anyone is willing to part with that kind of money and yes, theyre complete engines. They probably are keeping these for the remaining warranties that are still out there, like mine, lol. My cost on a new one is over $3k. Hopefully that sheds a little light on our engines, i didnt know for sure, but he did.
