Hey where did second gear go?

Hey guys, i already did a quick search and couldn't find the problem. I normally don't thrash my car, there might be a possiblility that i've had this problem for a long time but i just noticed it today.

From a stop I can't get the 1-2 shift. The start isn't too aggressive but its WOT all the way to 7k and won't go into second. Its definitely in gate. The shifter doesn't even "pop out." Feels like when I throw it into second it hits a wall or something, no noise either.

I've got a couple mods, only thing related to the prob are STS, mount and HIA tune (maybe?).

what do you guys think it is?

doesn't happen when i drive normally, RP synchromax tranny fluid since 04, only has 21k miles on it.

...oh yea its an 03SVTf

If I'm reading you right (it's too early in the morning) you can't hit second gear under hard acceleration, but you can hit it in normal driving? Well, it's definetely not the tune! Check both the mount and the STS, also check the cable linkages. I have my doubts about the linkages being the problem because with every thread I've seen on here I think you would lose more than one gear.
I'm really hoping it's not something internal to your transmission...

Sounds like you need the lower motor mount.

You need to train yourself to pull STRAIGHT back. Try and throw the knob into the back seat, it WON'T go into 4th, I guarantee you, just pull STRAIGHT back and that baby will satisfyingly fall into 2nd for a nice hard, tire-chirping shift.

If you're around and want me to show you, I will, I guarantee you that's what the problem is, it's not your mods, or lack thereof. I thought it was when I had the problem, so I installed an STS, still had the problem, so my buddy and I installed a VF rear mount and went for a drive. I still flubbed my shifts, and he told me to try going straight back. Voila, I've been slamming 2nd gear shifts since.
I tend to agree with Frush. I had the exact same problem and realized one day that I was pulling the shifter toward myself and getting caught in the reverse gate. Like he said, do the 1st to 2nd gear shift as if your throwing the shift knob into the back seat and you'll likely find that you will hit second quite nicely.

I noticed the same thing with my 03 SVTF when I first took it to the drag strip. I talked to our clutch guy about it and he said that its supposed to lock up like that to prevent tearing anything up....a perfect example would be....shifting gears at high rpms.

Now ive gotten used to the straight back and its all my shifts go as planned they dont fall on there face half way threw. Its a poplar thing I see.

These SVT trans' are different. I love seeing and hearing about people getting into them and thinking they put the car in reverse, but really are in 6th, instant stall. Sad to see the stall happen, but priceless is the look on the persons face.
