Newbie here, got a few questions for you SVT guru's

Watz up, I am new to the SVT focus. I just bought mine about a month ago and have started modding it. I just have a few questions.

1. When I take the car to redline in first gear and hit second real hard, what exactly is the slamming that I hear and feel in the front end? Also how do I remedy it?

2. I have noticed that it is near impossible to launch my focus from a standing start and not have it bog on me unless I ride the crap out of the clutch. Is there a way to remedy that?

3. I am thinking about starting to do bolt on performance stuff soon. What would you recommend I start with?

4. And last but not least, What kind of quarter mile times do the SVT focus run stock?

Thanks in advance for any responses I get and I am sure I will be talking to everyone more often.

later
Sean

1. The slamming you hear is the engine moving. Get a vf engineering rear motor mount to solve this.
2. Do you have traction control? If so pull the fuse for it, I believe fuse 46.
3. Tune, Rear motor mount, high flow cat, short throw shifter and a cold air intake to start
4. Stock with a good driver they run a 15.3

1. i had the same think happen to me in my zx3, i still don't know what it was.

2. launching these cars is tricky. i love when other people say they can do it and try to but can't. yes, you do have to ride the clutch, that's just the way it is.

3. the diablo sport or xcalibrator 2 does wonders for our car. in addition, you can go with an intake, engine mounts, orp or high flo cat, an eventually supercharge or turbo it. you can put on an exhaust but you don't really get noticeable gains, only a nice tone.

4. i've seen anything from 15.2 up to about 15.8. it really depends on how well you know you ride. these are averages too, there are some that do better or worse.

on a side note. you'll read that there are problems with our cars. there are many ways to remedy some of these. i don't want to say be prepared to dump a ton of money into you ride but just know that there are certain things that like to stop working or just plain break that will require your attention.

I agree with everything pinacup7 has to say, but I haven't had engine movement to the extent that is often reported with these cars.

I've had my best launches from about 3500 rpm with my traction control off. My clutch engagement is fairly quick, and I wouldn't classify this as riding the clutch. A 2.29 60' time doesn't allow much time for riding the clutch. This however, is something you don't want to do too often.

My first substantial mods will be a tune and a lighter flywheel. I'm not a big fan of hanging revs.

Finally, make sure you autocross your car!

you can also get a tune that will disable the traction control instead of pulling the fuse, as this also disables your ABS.

and welcome to the site.

WhiteGTDropTop;
Do you even have TC (Traction Control)?
It's not on all cars, only those equipped with the Winter Package, or EAP (European Appearance Package).
Winter package includes heated seats, engine block heater, and TC.

And...

Thanks for the fast replies guys. These little cars are amazing. It doesnt feel fast at all, but with a quarter mile like that it would definetely beat my dad's Mustang GT and possibly give my old GT a run.

Also, what kind of normal problems do our cars have?
thanks
Sean
