Post My SVT MPG Chart

i've been keeping track the last couple months for the kind of milage i get off a tank of gas in my 04 svt focus. i usually fill up when the light comes on which is usually around 10 gallons even ( i know it's bad to do this as the gas helps keeps the tank full... yadadada...) i missed a couple fill ups. you might even tell when my right foot weighed a little bit more for the week.

Date | Price per gal. | gas put in | miles on tank | MPG
5-27-06 $2.89 10.695 281.8 26.34
6-13-06 $3.08 11.368 280.9 24.7
6-20-06 $2.77 11.131 263.4 23.66
7-1-06 $3.09 10.308 239.6 23.24
7-8-06 $3.15 9.496 ----- -----
7-15-06 $3.19 8.783 168.8 19.21
7-22-06 $3.17 10.283 268.7 26.183
8-12-06 $3.01 10.432 237.5 22.76
8-24-06 $2.76 12.115 272.8 22.51
8-27-06 $2.68 9.472 254.4 26.85
9-8-06 $2.47 11.699 267.4 22.85

wierd how it seems as the price of gas goes up... my milage goes down

i'm moving to cali and will drive it so i'll monitor my gas milage all the way. hoping for that 30+ mpg.

Since the start of consistent warm weather I havent averaged below 30mpg once that I can recall, its been an excellent summer. Made me decide to delay the fuel filter and PCV maintenance, dont want to disturb the feng shui

OK, 'splain that one to me. Been doing the same thing all my life, right before the light comes on.

Is it something about the 'void' that's left as gas is consumed. Is it really that strong a vacuum that the walls of the tank are at risk from potential flexion? I know nothing.

Gee, if that was really a problem, you could open the filler cap at half-empty, let some air in. I don't think you'd be letting any more gas escape into the atmosphere than the last two drops you can never get that hit the pavement or your shoes putting the nozzle back.

IMPORTANT. Everyone remember to gas up on Monday Nov 6 before prices go back up!! The election is the next day.
(I've only cracked the 30 mpg barrier once .)

Waiting for the light to come on means you're at the bottom of the tank, so you run the risk of sucking in any condensation that's formed, as well as any nasty particulate matter. The fuel filter will catch most of it, but it can still corrode your fuel lines.
