Angry HOW CAME celica gts is faster than SVTF ??????

i really do not understand that !!! how come celica gts with 1.8 engine 180hp@7600 rpm and torque of 130 lb-ft@6800 rpm can be faster than SVT Foci with 2.0 170hp@7000 rpm and torque of 145 lb-ft@5500 rpm ????????? (according to fast-autos.net celica gts runs from 0 to 60 in 6.6 sec and SVT Foci 7.4 sec) Does those 250 lbs more on SVTF make that difference ???????? Please explain. SVT Focus has a lot better torque which is more important while accelerating than horsepower

The Powerband. The SVT makes a lot of low-end torque while the Celica probably doesn't make very much. The trade-off for some low end torque is high end torque. Gearing might also play a part. That 250 pounds makes a huge difference.

Yeah the SVT could use to go on a diet, first gear is WAY too big, and those numbers are just peak values, they say nothing about what the actual power bands look like.

The SVTF has a few disadvantages in a drag race but its all good. Loose a few pounds and learn to shift right and the numbers will go down.

Btw many SVTF owners have gotten lower #'s than magazines have posted, its all in the driver.

250 pounds is a HUGE difference.... 300-400 rpms higher reving... SVT gearing is decent @ best... Not to mention Toyota/Honda/Nissan have been in the 4cyl performance game a long time they really know how to squeeze out a lot of stock performance.

A Celica GT-S going 0-60 in 6.6 seconds? I call BS on that. My car, RSX Type S is faster than a Celica, and I know it's not capable of that time stock, so no way a Celica is pulling that. I'm not impressed with those cars truthfully, and I've run into a few of them with my Type S and had NO problem dusting them. I know for a fact one was a GT-S, but I'm not sure if it was auto or not.

I would take that with a huge grain of salt. GT-S may be a little faster than a SVT because of the weight, but with 15lbs less torque, it's not going to be that big of a difference.

Toyota Celica GT-S 0-60 on 7.4 and the 1/4 in 15.7

Everyone satisfied? Bolan maybe spend 10 seconds looking on the net before asking a question like this.

Yeah if you get beat by a great margin then you need to drive better. If anything it should be a drivers race
The SVT's tall first gear really kills it off the line but the Celica has a very small power band.
