Trading an SPI for an SVT

I didn't really like the Focus before I bought my very first car, which happend to be a 2001 Focus LX. I started making payments on it last August, which currently run $136 a month for 60 months. Now that I've had a chance to drive it, I can tell you that I now LOVE the Ford Focus. However, the 110hp SPI engine just isn't cutting it. I would love to have a 03-04 SVT Focus, but I'm not sure what I should do. What do you guys think? Should I sell my SPI for whatever I owe on it and finance an SVT (for about $200/month for 60 months), or just stick with my SPI (since I haven't had it that long)? I really want an SVT, and you only live once. My credit is good and I make about $15,000/year (I'm a college student mind you). I just don't want to wait another five years when the last SVT Focus will be seven years old. I guess my biggest concern is insurance. My current payments on my LX are $170/month, so there's no telling how much it will be on a 2-door sports car (possibly red). I'll be 21 this April, so I think my insurance rate will go down. Anyway, I'm just not sure what to do.

If you only live once go for it!!!! Im in the same boat as u. My 03 PZEV is $189 a month. and i'll be 21 in Sept. Only thing is my parents make my insurance payments for a trade off. I give them 20% out of every check I get.

to be honest, if i can go back in time when i was in college... i wish i could have saved money instead of making expensive car payments. having an high car payment, but driving a sweet car (mustang gt) thought to be awsome at the time. when i graduated and started getting all these bills and $h1T, i wish i could saved money.
that being said...stick with what you got, save your money. when you get a job and your graduated, reward yourself with something sweet
thats my 2 cents

I would figure out the change in insurance first. I am at the end of my college career and just got a svt, the car provides plenty of fun, I kinda wish I had gotten it earlier on instead of buying and wrecking a few motorcycles (fun stuff)...

Ow, college student and new car-itus. Man I hate to smash your b4lls but stick with your SPI, yeah it's slow but you're in college, you drive to school, your SPI is invisible, a shiny SVT would stick out and the inevitiable door dings and other damage you'll pick up, and not be able to repair, will hurt a whole lot more.

Save your pesos, ENJOY not having a crushing car payment, do the very best you can in college, land a good job and, by then, an SVT will look pretty pale compared to what you can afford.

College is a critical time in your life, you're packing your brain bagage for the voayage through life, don't crap it up with a finicky car like the SVTF.

One possibility is to check in with Hypnotic and see if he's got a tune that can put a little life into your SPI. It'll only be $300 or so but it's a lot better than having to cough up $200/mo for 60 months.

Go for the svt I was in the same boat as you a few months ago I had a zx3 that i had for about 9 months and then came accrost a svt, I talked the dealer into paying of my car and i picked up my svt for about 11k it was the best choice i could have made. I never once regret it and it only cost me a total of 50 more a month, 30 on the payment and 20 for insurance. You will love it Id say put your up for sale Today

im in college and have a svt. i sort of wished i hadn't just because how much money it takes from me every month. dont get me wrong i LOVE my svt but becasue of it i have to work full time and still go to school full time. on the other hand i bought mine new now they arent going to cost nearly as much so it prolly wont be so bad. one thing i will say is make your mind up before test driving one. once you drive it you will have to buy it, thats how they got me.
