02 SVT failed inspection because tires>>

Unbelievable!!! Car only has 12,000 miles. Tires look fine to me. How long have other's tires been lasting? 12K seems very early. Anybody know what the Conti warranty for the stock tires is? I sort of have a feeling the sleeze bags at the inspection station were trying to rip me off by selling me tires--as if I would buy tires at a corner gas station...

Anyone have any good recommendations for tire replacements. I need my tires to last more than a year.

Thanks for any info.

ALL tires, regardless of manufacturer or model, have what are called tread wear indicators. They are little blocks of rubber in the valley's (water channels) of the tread. These blocks are in every valley from the inside of the tire to the outside at about six or more equal distance spaces from each other around the tire. This is the government standard for when tires should be replaced. When the tread is wore down so that its flat with these indicators you only have .063" of usable tread left. You can locate these tread wear indicators by arrows or michilen men (obviously on michilens) where the edge of the tread meets the sidewall.

So if your tires are not wore down to these indicators the inspectors ar full of s**t and they don't have a right to fail your car !!!!!

I don't know how they work it in MA, but here in PA, if your car fails, you have to fix the problem. They 'flag' your car...as in the state will know if you passed or failed. Hope you don't have to deal with that.

check it and if they were wrong, go to a better place. If they were right, go to a "worse" place

hey i have a question how often do you rotate your tires? if you rotate them at least every 6,000 miles you will get a whole lot longer out of them
