Hit by a shopping cart
Ok, so I'm shopping at my local Sam's Club yesterday and I'm parked way out in no where land like always to avoid door dings. I come back to my car and there's a shopping cart sitting next to my car and it hit with enough force to set of my alarm. Several new marks on my passenger side that may or may not buff out and one new scratch that is about 7 inches long. I can only assume that someone didn't put a cart away and the wind blew it out and into my car.

That sucks!! Got to hate inconsiderate people.

I usually park in the boonies too... glad I don't go to the stores too often! You get any dings?
I have had a few close calls... latest one was when I was working on a house on a very windy day (figures I'm on the roof too) and it was garbage collection day. Well, the garbage men emptied the cans and the wind caught them sending them VERY close to hitting my car... that would have made my day.

get this, i WORK at a wal mart supercenter on 3rd shift. been there for 5 years. you have no idea how paranoid i am of crap like that happening. and for a good reason too! theres been about 6 or 7 incedents where cars were vandilized or damaged in some way. all were employees, and guess how many got any compensation or even a decent investigation? NONE! its on private property and wmart has there own loss prevention team, so the cops can't (and wont) do sh!t about it. not to mention wmarts crap-tastic surveilance cameras couldn't differentiate a black midget from Larry Bird taking a dump on the hood of your car at 3 am.
i used to have a beater that i drove to work, and wanted to get one for winter but i couldn't find anything decent for the money i had that i wouldn't have had to worry about falling apart. so, i just go outside on all three of my breaks and make a lap around my car to make sure theres nothing wrong.... excessive? i don't think so.

To answer a few questions that have been brought up:
No dings from the incident, luckily.
Yeah, I live in Neosho, which is in the southwest corner...where are you?

Yet another reason why Wal-Mart absolutely sucks.

Happened to me too. Went to get some protein, and it was pouring rain like mad. Like, hurricane-type rain. I run to my car, push the shopping cart away... not realizing what really happened. Next day, i go to my car, and sure enough, nice dent right in the fender, right where the line of the curve is. I was pissed for about 6 weeks. Still kinda am. That was last year. lol.

So, why don't store put in "rental" stations for their carts the way the airport makes you rent luggage carts. Need a cart, put in $1. Bring it back, get back $1. They do away with the "cart jockeys" and maybe have less carts floating around the lot.

bummer man, sorry bout that. As far as parking outta the way, youre damned if you do and damned if you dont.
back in HS I used to work at a store in a shopping center and when it was windy, we would place bets on which carts would hit which car.
