shifter probs

I did a couple searches on this and couldnt find anything. I have had 2 clips or springs replace in or around my shifter mechanism. when this prob happens it wont let me go in to 5th or 6th gear. has anyone had this problem and know how to fix it. the other 2 times it happened the dealer fixed it. no more waranty.

Never had that problem but I remember reading about it happening to others.


Weren't the earlier clips made of plastic and Ford came out with a stronger metal one on the later cars? I might be wrong on this but it seems that if Ford "fixed" the car before, and the problem still exists, that they really didn't FIX it, did they?

As such, Ford is supposed to warrant their work and I would be hounding them about this.

Something else to think about.....the stock lower motor mount is a piece of crap and allows the engine to move around a LOT! Putting an aftermarket mount on would reduce the stretching of the cables and might be the cure to your shifter problems. Good luck!

You have the STS? I wonder if the different pivot point messes up the tension on the cables

it happened before i put the sts in, twice! the first time the first night i got it. pulling into a parking lot. not getting on it at all.

if the second time you got it fixed is within a year, it's still warranted. because they warranty all their fixes for up to a year even if your own warranty is up.

me personally im tired of fing with the damn factory. To put that part on new cant be high. and i know its not hard. i would just rather have my car to drive than them have it for a week just for that clip.

Mine did.
I had both the FRPP STS and VF Rear Engine mount installed,
when I had to have the clutch TSB done.
