A Y### tune for ECU question.

Some of you may have read my other post, "What the hell is this?!"

Now that it's all figured out, a "while your in there" question to the tech was, "The sticker on the side of my door frame says R20something and I think it's suppose to read Y6something... I think I'm not up to date with the ECU updates. Or a TBS I think."

He in turns says he doesn't see any TBS for my car and it would say whether I need it.

Did I ask the wrong thing or do I really not need a new tune for the ECU?

Is my vocabulary whack and I need to update my vancular?

yes... how do I ask the dealer to do it, 'cause they're saying I don't need it.

You still under warrenty by chance? You can tell them the car is having all kinds of little quirks and it needs to be fixed. But I know if you're willing to pay (if you're no longer under warrenty) they'll do it.

It's still under warrenty. What exactly do I say to make them do it?

Try using the search feature here. There are quite a few threads mentioning the YRF0 flash. For example:
New TSB #03-19-11 (YRF0)
and
Where can i find article to show dealership??

You will find advice such as:

"FOR PEOPLE SEEKING THE FLASH! You typically will have more success with your local dealer if you say your car has the SYMPTOMS. Service writers will not be so helpfull if you tell them what is wrong-I KNOW MY STUFF AND I NEED THE REFLASH does not bode well.

Complain that the car surges under light load, especially when cold and is sluggish off the line, the battery light if you have that as well. You contacted svt and they say they know of the problem and there is a new ecu flash."

Get a copy of the TSB, print it out and leave it on the seat. Or show it to the Service Advisor and then leave it on the seat.

Go to a SVT-Certified shop. Emphasize the cold start symptoms because these will be a b*tch to replicate and could take many days at the shop. Ask for the free rental car.

If you are polite, direct, succinct and purposeful, the you will get your car back with the new flash in a day. Can you imagine a dealer hanging on to the car for a week and having to pay for the rental?

you can always say to hell with the dealer and give ol' Wayne a call and order you an Excal with his custom tune, you'll be smiling all the way down the road :-)

why does it seem so hard to get the dealer to do it for you? is it time consuming?

I had to laugh out loud (got me stare from my teacher) when someone with 5 posts just schooled me and told me to do a search. Thanks for the heads up the_fog.
