forged pistons

I have heard that the first thing to give out structurally in the svt motor is the pistions. First, is this generally true and where can i get a upgraded aftermarket set that keeps the same compression ratio? And at 250 hp (spraying 75 shot) what ofter parts are most likely to fail structurally (head gasket, rods. ect...). Thanks

Umm I beg to differ. I know many people that are running hard on the stock internals. First person that comes to mind is turbo tom. I would say you could run that safely on the stock internals just don't pump the nitrous too much. The internals for the SVT are forged. (correct me if I'm wrong)

I thought only the rods were forged. But, I seem to read Tom saying quite a bit that 300+ at the wheels is safe on stock internals.

the rods are forged, the pistons are hypereutectic, I believe. pistons are rarely in danger of failure unless you don't have a good TUNE! detonation will turn your pistons into cheese graters. on a standard zetec, the rods would have likely snapped before the pistons got ventilated, but the svt has forged rods, so if something were to go, it'd be the pistons most likely (don't know for sure, haven't seen too many blown up svt's)

i'm not saying that the pistons in the svt are weak i am just agreeing with the crazymechanic that if something were to break it would most likley be the pistons.

He's never going to tell you how much it cost, just think about it. Turbo Toms full kit is well into the thousands. And Orange is fully custom tuned. I think you can get a good estimate for yourself in your head.
