The fatal flaw of my SVTF

....Is the local Ford dealership. They tried telling me my car had ZERO TSBs and/or recalls.

This is after the guy told me "I've never heard of a SVT build number" (He had to read the sheet of paper to even remember it.)

He asks around, and one woman said "I've been doing this for 20 years and never heard of such a thing." They've never heard of 1-800-FORD-SVT either.

It's not a suprise their not an authorized SVT dealer. They got one as a trade in on an 05 F350....03 Cobra with 30,000 milesand bald tires they were asking $45,000.

/end rant

I've been to 3 different SVT certified dealerships in my area, and none of them REALLY know what they are. Unless you find a dealership that sells a high volume of SVTs (and therefore services a high volume), the techs really aren't going to be experienced enough. Unless I have a serious warranty problem I either work on it myself, or take it to a friend of mine if I don't have the time or resources to do the work myself.

For a Ford dealership to be a "certified" svt dealership, they must have 2 tech's trained and certified, buy so many units a year and have a sales team trained also. If theyre certified, ask which techs are the ones certified to repair your car. If they cant answer that question, ask how did they get certified?

I don't know about the tech test, but the SVT test that the salesmen take is a joke. I know at the ford dealershp I used to work for, the majority of the salesmen didn't know jack about how cars work. That's why I sold 90% of the SVT vehicles that came on the lot.

Also, with the SVTF it is hard for the average person to tell the difference. It has nicer wheels and a little badge on the back, but thats about it. And when only 2 out of 10 or more techs has to be certified, chances are the one that's working on your car isn't exactly an expert. It sucks, but they (the techs) don't get paid more for being SVT certified, so there isn't a whole lot of incentive for them to pass the tests.

my dad is an svt certified tech, so i luck out in the fact that i don't have to deal with these types of issues. its good to know that i can find an svt certified tech in the presence and comfort of my own home.
