Quicker/ Easier Starting.........

hey everyone I have a quick question fer all of you.....i dont know much about ignitions or anything like so i need some help. I want my car to start easier/quicker. I havent had trouble with my car starting just takes it a while to start in general. Like i turn the key and it takes a good 3-4 seconds or so. I just was wondering if there is anything I can do to get it to start quicker/easier. I mean in my bug its pretty much instant when i turn the key. Does this have to do something with the higher compressioin of the engine? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. thanks

If you turn the key to "ON", wait till 2 seconds, then twist to "START" position, it will start a little bit faster. Doing it this way allows the fuel pump time to pressurize the system.

Other than that, there's nothing you can do, the timing is set by the computer, unlike your Bug where the base timing setting will speed up or slow down your start time.

unless you get one that can advance and retard timing independant from your ECM, then I can't see how it will help for that.

MSD still uses your computers signal to trigger its spark, but I think they have a add-on that will allow you to advance/retard manually... Its been a while, since I messed with one, and that was on a different type of car (non-OBDII)

Do the big 3 wires.

Battery Ground.
Engine Ground.
Battery + To Alternator.

Use 4 gauge and do not remove your factory grounds, just add to them.

get a custome tune. i got the tune from hypnotic illusions and the starting times lowered dramitcally. i didn't think anything of it until i had to load my stock tune back in for warranty service and i noticed how long it took to start.

wow, i'm surprised.... maybe if you talk to your tuner then you can get him to advance the spark at start-up? by the way who tuned your car?
