Exclamation 2003 SVT 6 speed shifting

So I have had my '03 SVT for over two years, and it has always shifted really well. But today something happened. It goes from 1-4 just fine, but when I try to get on the interstate it appears that there isn't even a 5 or 6 spot to shift to. When I move the shift knob to the right to shift, it will only go into 3rd of 4th, and then when I move it back to the left, there is an audible click to get back to 1st and 2nd. Any ideas of what this might be?

Moved this to SVT Performance, more trans. info. in here.

Shifter mech. right at the lever needs a check, as well as outside of trans. if you don't find the problem right there.

It's pretty easy to remove whatever air filter is there and then the air box/filter surround itself. This grants you access to the right side transmission mount and also right where the shift cables hook up to the actual transmission. The cables pop of pretty easily and from there you can manipulate the shift tower itself by hand to verify that you have 6 distinct positions there, it should slot into the different gears pretty easily.

Brought it to the shop. They said it is one of the cables is broke. Not really very proficient with car terminology, is this something that is very expensive or easy to do on your own? Any opinions?

They're a pain to get to they run under the center console and out under the fire wall. I can see them not being cheap to install.

Just did mine yesterday with a bit of patience a knife to cut your carpet under the dash cuz the nuts are under the carpet too so without taking the whole dash out make slits and get a 10mm wrench. Then they run under the heatshield which I just cut off cuz I couldn't be bothered to mess around with it then under the heatshield the cables sit in their own clip and then feed through to the inside not too bad just patience is needed finicky project without taking the whole car apart...

Replacing the cables is a little bit laborious but doable. I haven't done it but from what I've read, it basically involves disconnecting the cables at both ends and then linking/chaining the new cables to the old ones at the shifter and then pull them through the firewall at the transmission end. You're basically extending a rope by tying a knot between the two. there are probably really good youtube tutorials on this.

Best of luck. You have to be very confident you can do it though if you attempt it yourself. If the cables come unhooked midway, you've got no gearbox and drive. I learned this replacing an antenna once this way.

If you have all but 5@6, a cable is not broke.
It takes both cables to use R, 1, 2, 3, 4.
Your one cable just needs adjustment.
