Is a blown-gasket ST170fixable?

My ST170 leaked radiator then caused engine over heat, then had a blown gasket. The car had obvious vibration at idle, the mechanics said it would need 2000-3000$ to repair? Should I sell it or get it fixed elsewhere?

Thanks guys.

Neo

thats what the mechanic said, to get another engine is probably easier, but the hard thing is to source one down in New Zealand.

Only if you want it to be a zetec car for the future.

If you leave it with water in the cyl. the decision will soon be made for you, an entire engine will be needed.

or I will sell the car for parts, since the repair cost is too high.

So he hasnt removed the head yet to see what the problem is ? It could be as easy as just a head gasket or as bad as needing an engine , I would sure look into it , I sell the SVT complete rebuilt engine back stock for 1995.00 US

His prices seem very high for not knowing what it needs

I am letting some mechanic friends cracking open the head and find out what went wrong exactly soon. I am not driving it in the mean time. Thanks for your offer, Tom, I may just take it IF I am in US. 1995US is almost 3/4 a used ST170 here in New Zealand. So I may pass.

However, if I am thinking putting another ford engine (except this ST engine), which one do you think I can put in without too much troubles?

In reality there isnt another engine , you would have to change everything , mounts , all wiring under hood and in dash , ECU a complete wiring change

If your willing to do that I would find a 2003-2004 duratec 2.3 with some simple mods you can do 170hp easy thats a 20hp gain from the avg SVT to the wheels

The car won't go anywhere anyway. Why don't you pay him to take the heads off and see if it is a blown gasket. You may need a head skimming, thicker gasket (to account for skim) and new fluids and spark plugs if you are lucky.
