Borla muffler on SVTF?

Anyone tried running just the borla muffler with existing stock SVTF exhaust piping? Since the whole catback system doesn't produce much power gains I'm thinking of just adding the muffler itself for a different exhaust note. Less than $200. for just the muffler...

I guy did it on here a few months back and ended up pretty dissapointed. I believe the end product was loud though... not sure if that was a good thing or not.

So, I quess my next question is for those with the borla catback system. Is it worth the money replacing my stock svt system? Any noticeable performance gains and how do you like the sound? I can't really find any sound clips for the borla on the svtf....what I don't want is to spend the $$ and have no improvement or less performance than my stock set up. I've seen some people actually lose power when they swapped their stock set up for an aftermarket system. Thanks for any replys.

You should check out this book. It lists a multitude of modifications, including the Borla muffler, along with dynographs with stock vs. modified. Once you look through it, though, I think you might change your idea about adding modifications to the engine's breathing abilities.

Thanks for the hot tip on the book...I'm reluctant to do any exhaust work on my car because the stock SVTF set up works really well. I won't do anything that may decrease the performance of the car...

I was the one who switched out JUST The muffler on the svt a few months back. I Would NOT reccomend going that route! I bought just the borla muffler from trubendz.com (like 115) then went to midas and paid about 40 for them to bolt it up. I was thinking it would be perfect for me...but then we started it up, and it sounded...JUST LIKE STOCK! There was maybe a 1% change in exhaust note. I then had them cut the rear lunchbox off and route a new pipe with the stock tip on it (75 I think). I then started it, and it was a very very quiet exhaust system, but a bit deeper than stock (could hear the borla more).

I ended up getting an ORP and now I love the sound, not too loud, and plenty deep.

I think for the money spent, it would be better to just have a full exhaust system you can bolt on, rather than doing what I did. (sure you can save like 100, but in hindsight I would have rather spent that 100 to be able to just bolt on a new system myself)

I personally amd going to get a high-flow cat and keep the rest of the exhaust stock. I know someone has done this, how does it sound?

Someone should chime in with that info ^^ I know the stock exhaust and ORP sounds pretty bad, but my orp/borla combo sounds very nice.

I've got the R/T hi-flo cat, the Borla muffler and deleted lunch box and I think it sounds great! Hard to notice after about 3500-4000 rpms cause then the intake makes more noise but I've had my window rolled down and I can hear the sound reflect off the other cars when I pass. Sounds good!!
