Opinions on an aspect of intakes

So, if this has been discussed until peoples eyes have bled, I appologize.

I'm just after some opinions - just how much noisier is an aftermarket intake like the Steeda setup, for example? I had an '02 Ranger with the 4.0L - I put an intake on it and I did notice the sucking sound - some days I liked it, others I wished it was quieter - probably 50% of the time one way, 50% the other.

So, haven't heard such an intake in a car like my SVTf - opinions?

Oh, yeah - I have installed a K&N filter in the stock box and I removed the side port "S" shaped inlet thingy - with just that, I did notice a tiny bit more intake noise and it doesn't really bug me.

So, if you want to comment, please do - and you might mention what kind of intake you have too.

Oh, and like I said, if this has been beaten to death already, just point me in the direction of the posts where the beatings have occured ;)

Kev

I have a K&N Typhoon SRI on my SVTf and I love it! It does get that cool suck/whistle sound, and you can prolong the whistle if you play with the throttle a little...but, that's simply for fun.

It is not annoying to me at all... I love it!

*Eyes bleeding* nah, just picking...

I have the AEM CAI and I LOVE it!!! Yes, you can definitely hear it when you get on it but I LOVE the sound, especially in the upper RPM range, it just sounds MEAN! LOL I have gotten compliments on the sound. If you want quiet, stick with the stock set-up because no matter what intake you get you are going to hear it when you get on it. It's not annoyingly loud but you'll definitely hear that baby sing!

My K & N Typhoon CAI sounds great too. The nice thing is when you are not on the throttle it sounds totally normal.

K&N Typhoon, has a nice sound at idle. Like JM said if you play with the throttle it's cool to get that prolonged whistle which gets even louder with an aftermarket T/B. I have 2 videos of mine that I listen to daily because I haven't seen my car since January

It's not annoying loud but if people are parked next to you at a stop light and they are into cars they'll know you are running one

when i installed my SRI from steeda on my svtf it had that cool sucking whistle noise. BUT after putting on the 65mm TB the cool noise kinda went away :o( so try that combo and you just might like it

I like my Steeda intake. It sounds mean under the hood at WOT - almost V8ish. I like the sound.

I'm glad that my intake doesn't whistle! I had a whistling issue with my F-150's intake that was bugging me!

The one thing I dislike about it (and any other aftermarket intake that I've owned for my previous vehicles) is that it makes a whistling/sucking sound on a cold start when it gets cooler outside... like today it was 55 or so this morning and my car was making the noise. It goes away when it warms up, but it sounds like a bad belt and that something is wrong. It also does it on my bro's GTP with a cone filter. I've grown used to it.

Funny that you mention that - I do now remember the Ranger making that dang whistling sound too - sounded sort of cheap. I hated that too. Any other issues out there? Sounds like everyone is pretty supportive of their CAIs.......

The whistling is only when you first crack the throttle, just a quick metal piercing sound....nothing continuous. Maybe I can get a vid hosted later that clearly shows what I'm trying to describe.
