underdrive pulley

What gains can i expect to see with a set of underdrive pulleys from focus central? Also has anyone ever had issues result from the underdriving?

Ah the famed issue is back. search the back threads on this. I personally think the focus already has a charge system problem and underdriving the alt and water pump is not advisable for the say 5 whp.

I would say at the most, only 3 horsepower. I have a focus book full of eveything you can think of to do to a focus and then they dyno it everytime. Such a small thing for 5 whp, don't you think?! 2-3 whp sounds about right.

The UDPs have done nothing but help performance, no draw backs what so ever.

Completely agree. The HP isn't alot, I noticed it in the lower RPM's. It pulls alot harder from 1500-4500 RPMS. Personally I think it's the best dollar for dollar upgrade. Brings the low end to life.

let me tell you, i've had udps on at least four cars that i've owned, and you always get good, noticeable gains. to hell with all these people saying they're gonna ruin your engine and crap. i've read articles about people checking the balance of these things, and they are just as balanced as the factory ones.

3-5 hp doesn't seem like alot, but with the pulleys its a solid gain all the way through the power band, not just peak power. the throttle response improves because your engine revs easier. this and the extra low end make everyday street driving much better. you can have your car in neutral and blip the throttle for a half sec and it actually revs. when my car was stock, you had to hold in the throttle for what seemed like forever to get the damn needle to go anywhere!

the focus central 2 piece set is slick as hell. you get to use the factory sized belt, and once you take the original pulleys off, you wont believe how heavy they are compared to the anodized aluminum ones! buy em buy em buy em! got mine for 120 i think, off of cfm.com.

to each his own. I did say And I quote "Say 5whp".End quote. notice the word say. Why not go with just the crank pully. And by the way my stang gt had udp's and so did my grand prix gtp. Oh; but those cars are not focus. unlike focus. The above stang and gtp can handle it. There charging systems are not crap and they have bigger engines. Just my opinion.

actually, svt medic, to tell you the truth, since i've done my mods i don't notice the infamous "flicker" of the lights anymore. i didn't notice any dimming of lights or anythink like that. the alternator pulley was not replaced, but i can't say that it didn't change the rotation of the alt's pulley. it used to be that if i rev the engine, say in neutral, when it came back to idle the lights would dim for a split second... not anymore!! i can guarantee that anyone on here with pulleys will tell you that they haven't had any charging problems. the pulleys are a great mod.
