I have best results when cruising around 3k and shifting by 4k in all gears around town. I found that the 2-3k range is not very good for fuel efficiency.

You know that's probably what I'm doing too much 2-3K shifts. I try to shift a little more than 3.25K when driving around, maybe I should go a little higher.

My test results:
Between 1,467 and 1,955 miles new, so the engine probably wasn't quite broken in yet.
1) 2k-3k city rpm...26.263mpg
2) 2.5k-3.5k city rpm...24.613mpg
That's two consectutive (full) tanks, and being as consistent as I could with driving conditions.
Only difference between the two, was the rpm operating range.
