New SVTF

I bought an 03 SVTF a month ago, and until now there have been no problems.

The first problem is that when i roll the windows up, there is a high pitched squealing sound that is VERY LOUD. Its not scratching the tint or the window, but its rubbing something

Second is the previous owner put some lowering springs on the car, they are blue and look to have given it about an inch drop. I wonder if anyone knows who makes these springs?

Third is there is a power surging problem. It feels like at low RPM's the car gets a rhythmic kind of power surging that is rather annoying. The speed makes no difference, i could be going sixty in sixth at 2k rpm's and it still does it.

The last problem is that right around 2K rpm's, there is a squealing noise coming from the engine bay, and im not sure what it is, but it didnt start happening until recently.

Any help would be appreciated, and if you need any more info let me know and i will be happy to supply it. I don't have any time to take it in to get it checked out, although i may have to make some, and again thanks in advance.

The surging is a known issue, this is one of those cases where the old saying "they all do that" really does apply. Mine does it too. Some cars seem to do it more than others, though. Some people who have purchased an aftermarket tune for the car have reported that the surging went away - on the other hand, some who purchased those same aftermarket tunes have reported that the surging is really bad now.

The squealing noise could be a loose belt, a broken belt tensioner, or any number of things. I had a noise that sounded a little like a squeal, and the dealer thought it was a belt issue. After they had done everything they could do to the belt and tensioner and the noise was still there, I told them to please check the catalytic converter because to me it sounded like the noise was coming from under the car. And as it turns out, that's what the noise was. It was not the loose heat shield which is so common (that's more of a rattle), but they said the material inside had come loose - it really did sound like a squeal.

The window issue - could be the window regulator is not properly lubed up, or is too tight or something maybe?

I assume you're still under warranty, these are issues I would take up with the dealer.

thanks SVT4ME. I also bought an extended warranty from the nissan dealership i bought it from, any AFC certified mechanic can work on it for a 50 dollar deductible. The only reason i got it was because it had been lowered, so god knows what else the kid before me did to it to void the warranty. I recently found evidence of a neon kit because there was a loose wire hanging from the back not connected to anything. So he could be one of those guys.

Well I'd make use of that extended warranty... although be forewarned that even Ford dealers don't always know what they're doing on these cars (the SVT version of the Focus, that is). Most people have had the best experience with an SVT-certified Ford dealer.

I wouldn't worry too much about what the previous owner may have done... mine was owned by a Ford dealer service advisor/manager who treated it well, and yet about a year after buying it I started having ALL KINDS of problems, so even the well-kept examples can have problems, too. In other words, just because you're having problems doesn't necessarily mean it was beat on.

on ocassion my window squeeks when rolling up. But it seems to be only in really really hot days..kinda like the rubber got really soft and is resting really close to the window. It has not done it in a while...the surging can be taken care of with the YRF0 update...

when i got my car it had the same type of deal...i bought it from a private dealer, the car was mega lowered and had a ricey exhaust and an AEM intake. I told them to take it all off and replace with stock parts. I am glad i did, so i could mod my car the way i wanted. When i took out the spare tire i saw wires everywhere from an old amp and speaker install...it is always interesting to see what people do before you get the car.

the springs are probably Sprints, thats the only one i can think of that are blue unless they are some no name ebay brand. good for about 1.8"or 1" on an svt.

Here's what mommy should have told you to do when you downshift:
1. Step on the clutch
2. Simultaneously slide the shifter into a lower gear and give the throttle a quick, amazingly precise jab to rev the engine to exactly the rpm it needs to be at in the next gear
3. Quickly let out the clutch

Oh sure, It takes a few thousand tries before you get the timing and precision of your jab just right, but the reward is that you no longer suck.
