Problems with tune (Hypnotic)

Well, I was hoping to hear from Wayne (sent him a private message lastnight and it was read), but I'm going to put up a post and see if anybody else is having symptoms I am.

After I installed the city tune my car ran ok. I noticed a tad more power down low. However, after I installed the tune my car runs REALLY crappy around 1500 at WOT - runs crappy if I'm going up a hill at WOT too. It hiccups REALLY bad and jerks and doesn't accellerate until I let up on the throttle, where it goes away. I never had this problem before the tuning.

My revs stick a tad too. After revving my engine, the revs drop slower than they did before the tune. They'll drop slowly for like a second or two then drop normally. This doesn't bother me as much, but I really didn't have a problem with the stock rev lag, or in my case lack of.

This is with Hypnotic's city tune installed. I never tried the highway tune, but I want a product where everything works. Hopefully a new tune is in the making that will cure my symptoms.

What freaked me out about the 1500 rpm WOT hiccups is that I was taking off in 1st normally to turn left, but a car was heading at me faster than I thought so I floored it. I was left "limping" across the lane... luckily it wasn't a close call!

Well, hope nobody is having problems like me...

I had the same probs. He's been working with me on them It showed up on both the street and highway tunes. I'm currently on update #3 (installed today, so takes a few days to be sure of any other probs). I'm sure he'll get back with you shortly.

Wayne sure is a great guy, but it's a shame he doesn't have access to a dyno to perfect his tunes. Thankfully, he's got outstanding customer service (at least, he usually does)

I hope you all get your issues sorted out quickly....it sucks when your car's not 100% healthy.

Not to single Wayne out, but just speaking generally, the number of people who have "issues" with their tune is disconcerting to me. I've been planning on getting some tune when my IRS refund arrives but the more I think about the more I'm not sure it's worth the potential hassle of having to play "tag" over email, PM, telephone, trying to get ahold of someone to fix the problem should one arise.

I realize that the tunes may work differently for each car, and may need tweaking for each car to overcome "unforeseen issues" but it's still kind of off-putting. When I buy something, especially something that costs $300-$500, I expect it to work, and work right, the first time. But then I'm also kind of a jerk, and a picky customer, so...

Anyway, Toolman I feel your pain.

SVT4ME: Then you should get your chip/programmer and take it to someone with a dyno to do the tune. It will be a bonus if they know what they are doing when it comes to the SVTF. You can also pay Wayne to come to your site and do the work, at least he's said that before

Hey, like I said, I'm not picking on Wayne, it's just that many owners are advertising these tunes as like a "panacea" for all that ails your SVT but the truth seems to be that they can cause as many problems as they fix. I'm sure he knows the SVT (he bought one, duh) but like I said each car may respond differently. I'm just saying maybe this tune thing isn't for everyone, after all.

BTW no offense to Wayne but there's no way I could afford to fly him to California to personally tune my car.

Wayne has great customer service, I'm sure he'll take care of you. Keep in mind he is also VERY busy. You may not want to hear that, but his results are always worth the wait...he knows what he is doing.

For anyone hesitant on buying a tune (from anyone), don't be. Sure you may have issues, but this can happen with any mod on any car. Tuning is more critical than most other things, and it also depends on many factors. Variances in gasoline quality, altitude, temperature, humidity, driving style, etc. all affect driveability. Mail order tuning is probably one of the hardest things a tuner can do...doesn't matter if Wayne, Tom, Randy, Ray or whoever is doing it. I know of several tuners who won't even consider mail order tunes, despite the profit they might generate.

Anywhooo, give Wayne a call, he'll take care of it.

Those of you who have difficulty getting a hold of Wayne. HIA has its own forum which Wayne is on everyday. So HIA customers should definitely register on his forum and he will respond alot faster.
