Engine Oil Temp gauge

I'm currently encountering an erratic oil temp gauge on my 03' svt. When I drive above 3000 rpm's the oil temp gauge climbs into the red zone. The water temp is normal and oil presure is good. When I drop below 3k rpm's the gauge returns to normal. Has anyone encountered the same problem? Ford does not list a part no. for the engine oil temp sending unit. Please help.....

yep, i have the same problem once in a while. i do not know what causes it, but i have been looking at focaljet and the newest (?) theory is;

The coolant gauge is mounted high in the motor, and if the coolant runs a little too low, the gauge will only read what it last read when it saw coolant. therefore the coolant gauge cannot be trusted, and the engine temp gauge doesn't really exist, it's reading is based off of calculations that that computer does, but it does mean that engine is overheating.

i haven't had much of a chance to look into how correct this may be, but for me i thought maybe the oil filter had gotten partially plugged, so i changed oil and filter, with no different result.
