Another exhaust thread :( Cheap-Skate wants Borla

I have asked around and it looks like they want about 45-65 to hack out a muffler and just weld in a pipe. I considered hacking off the lunchbox, but dont think that is going to give enough sound for my liking. I think borla is what I really want (My goal is to get the deepest rumbling exhaust I can get, and try to stay away from the typical rice-yellow jacket-buzz)

I have not been able to locate a place that sells just a borla muffler. Anybody know of a place that would sell just the muffler? I dont really know what would be the best route:
A: Having the muffler shop install a magnaflow/borla and leave lunchbox/long resonator tube (probably not enough sound for my liking though, but would be the cheapest)
B: Have muffelr shop do same as above, but remove resonator tube, and or lunchbox.
C: Order the trubendz borla kit for 300 (looks like the SS kit is 290 or so) then pay to have it installed, because I dont have access to a lift to do it myself.

What do you guys think would be the best bet? I am also wondering what the difference is between the trubendz borla kits (which even for the SS dont go above 300) compared to the typical prices I see listed of about 400-500?

The guy that runs the local shop said he could just order a magnaflow muffler, but I have no idea how that would sound, and if he orders it im stuck with it.

I still have not found the sound clips section on here (I spent the last 2 hours reading exhaust threads, and most people kept saying there is a sound clip section, which I cant seem to find!) The overall consensus seems to be that borla is a good sounding exhaust, and isnt that loud (which makes me wonder if it will be loud enough for my tastes, which is louder than stock, but not "Hey I can hear you 10 miles away" loud).

One note to make... I saw a few people referring borla-wanters to MBRP for 230... and i REFUSE to deal with them. I put their "race" pipe on my atv, and lost 4 hp over the STOCK pipe! A buddy of mine with a bored/stroked engine lost 12 hp over STOCK.. because their RACE canister consisted of a shiny tube with a dime sized hole for exhaust flow (some nice engineering huh...)

Thanks in advance for your input!

When it comes to exhaust, the cheap way is the wrong way. Are you looking for performance or are you going to put a Honda beehive on your car. If I was you (which is what I should have done) is get custom 2 1/4" exhaust. Stock exhaust is pinch bent which turns a 2 1/4" exhaust into somewhere between 1 3/4" and 2" pipe. From the flex pipe back (unless the shop can make a flex pipe, then it would be the cat or race header) install 2 1/4" Mandrel Bent exhaust and finish it up with a quality brand muffler like a magnaflow or a Hooker Aero Chamber muffler. Something with good flow and a nice deep tone. I installed Thermal Research catback exhaust on my car. I like it cause my car doesn't sound like a beehive like all the Hondas do. It has a nice mild tone, (not loud, not quite) but it could be better with a deeper tone.

that might be right for the regular foci, but for the SVTF it has mandrel bends, and is already 2.28" dia, so getting 2 1/4" for the SVTF is down sizing, which to me makes no sense.

anyways, back on topic, i am also thinking of removing the rear lunch box only, i don't want something to loud, just a notch higher so i can be heard when at WOT.

I am not looking for gains, I honestly could care less if there were zero gains (but hp is hp so ill take what I can get)

No im not considering putting a fart can out the back, I just dont know what I should try and do.

And yes, the reason im considering just replacing a muffler, is because I see no reason to get rid of the stock tubing, since that is all a cat-back would be replacing.

I think I'd go with a three inch muffeler for a deeper sound

How much is the HKS? is it sold as muffler only, or as a cat-back?

The one thing I dont like about the HKS is that it has the typical fart can look to it.

What about a mbrp. Thats what i got and i love the sound. It wouldnt be too good with a orp but without it is nice and loud but not overbearing. It is also cheap at around $230 i believe.
