Tech Specs for max Tq and HP on SVT Tranny

Anyone knwo what the manufacturer's recommended max torque and hp are for the 6-speed tranny in the SVT? I know what they are the MTX75 in the stock Focus, but I am considering an upgrade to the SVT 6-speed several years down the line if I go with FI. Thanks!

yea the key word here is 'rated'. Companies dont necessarily push their products to the point of explosion. The ATX tranny isnt rated that high, but look at toms 500hp focus. Other companies do the same. I kknow old sl2's manual trannies were rated to 140hp, but people have had up to 250whp on them.

That doesn't make sense. The MTX75 on the stock Focus is rated to 220 N-m (approximately 162 ft-lbs.) according to Ford. Anyone have an official Ford quote on what the Getrag 6 speed can do? Is it really only 155 ft-lbs.

PS - With a change in the first gear ratio, the MTX75 can take up to 280 N-m (approx. 206.5 ft-lbs).

Most transmissions will take a LOT more torque than their 'rating' for a short period. If you try to run one 24/7 at more than the rating it will probably die due to lubrication failure.

Torque rating is directly dependant on size of gear teeth, number of teeth engaged and the torque multiplication available due to the gear ratios. All else being equal, a larger gear has more surface area and will transmit more torque before it applies the same amount of pressure per square inch on the lube being squeezed between them.

The Richmond T-10 (Borg Warner Super T-10) with 2.88 first gear is only rated for mid 200's while the 2.42 is into the mid 300's. Same gear sizes and materials only the torque multiplication being different to cause the change. And, I wore out and broke a 2.88 counter-shaft in 15,000 miles behind a dual-quad 454 with over 500lb.ft. It took a while to break, but break it did. The oil (Mobil 1 gear) didn't seem up to the task.

So, unless you are REALLY going to get nuts, the stock tranny should hold up pretty well. I would change the oil more frequently and, if you plan on extended hard running, invest in some form of cooling system.

tom's SVT pushes 300tq and has a stock tranny, he's been running it for years without issue.
