new svt owner needs upgrade advice

Just bought a svt zx5 and love it. I think I've read about every thread in here and have got the general idea of what to do first as far as upgrades but I need some ironing out. I've got about $900 left from my bonus that is all going to my new "baby". I have heard people say udp, air induction, orp, but I'm not sure of what brands to buy and what is next after I get these. Please help, ever since I've gotten this car and a little extra money, it's consumed my thoughts all day long. I want to make it a import eater and I need all of your help.

thanks

Welcome and congrats on your new ride. I think you'll find a wealth a knowledge here if you know where to look. However, before you spend your money, I would recommend thinking about exactly what you want. It sounds like you want more power, but hear me out. Depending on how you do it, you can upgrade your suspension and/or brakes....or engine. It really depends on your preference. If you decide to go the power route, what kind of power are you looking for. Maybe you should consider FI and just save the $900 towards a turbo setup of SC. Or perhaps you want to stay NA...its up to you.

Whatever you do, think about it first. I made that mistake with my last car and by the time I realized what I really wanted, I had too much money sunk into tuning it one way...my point: If you are going to go FI, certain intakes would be waste of money...so would a UDP if you decide to go with a SC. Also, if you get an exhaust consider what diameter piping you will need for your future plans. There is nothing worse that wasting money IMO.

Hope I helped,
Nick

essteevee, you have spoken. ....And in the process made me look at myself and say "Stupid"..
Poking at myself on that one....please dont apologize.

Your were so right, I did not even think going FI or SC and what mods would be a waste of money by doing so. You da man!!!

By the way Ray Dixon at www.myfordperformance.com will price match.

Extended warranty is a good thought. I bought it once with a Ford Ranger, and it paid for it's self. But one thing to consider is the car comes with a 5 yr 100,000 mile drive train warranty right from the factory. There is a $100 deductable for repairs to the power train after 3 yrs or 36,000 miles.

And as a side note, I just hit 13,000 miles on mine, bought it in June 03. It has had the transmission, flywheel and clutch replaced. It was making noise (some folks have said this noise is normal for this set up) but I was adamant about it with the dealer and they replaced it. It still makes the same noise, but not as loud. There have been many threads about the flywheel clutch issue. But, my feeling is most of the clutch problems SVT owners have been reporting are caused by very agressive driving, you know, street racing, burn outs, and other car killing behavior. (MHO)

As far as your $900, buy gold and put it away.

If you're not planning on a Supercharger, go with a UDP first. I remember the parasitic drag the accessories gave me when i first got my car. It's a cheap, easy to install and worth every penny. I purchase mine from http://www.focussport.com, best price I found.

Good luck with the car!
