Hard to find perfect parts!

I'm new to the aftermarket world for the SVT Focus. Now my questions are as follows:

1. Bodykit wise, does a SVT have the same fittings as a ZX3?
2. What type of engine does an SVT have, zetech? And if something is made for a zetech, does that mean it will fit onto the SVT?
3. Pretty much what are the similarities between the SVT and the ZX3/5 according to the aftermarket world.

1. The SVT focus and a typical hatchback, yes the parts are interchangeable (exterior) so for example, any bumper is interchangeable (front), the backs are the same also. The only ones that don't fit (back ones) are the wagon and sedan cause they are unique to their models only. Hoods are all interchangeable. You can put a regular ZX3 bodykit on a SVT, same dimensions although most don't cause the SVT is unique with it's own kit. Putting a kit on a SVT defeats the purpose of the visual identity a SVT has. The bodykits/lip kits on the market right now designed for a hatchback focus will fit the SVT. Of course the ZX3 kits and ZX5 kits are different, some are depending on the side skirts and the rear doors. Things like grills, headlights, all the little stuff is completely swapable.

2. It's a modified Zetec 2.0L engine that is in the SVT. Things make for a Zetec won't fit on the SVT, the TB's are different, intakes, intake manifolds, etc. The SVT header is one of the best on the market as is and a common mod for Zetec upgrades. If your going aftermarket, buy SVT specific aftermarket parts.

3. The SVT has similar aftermarket mods but not as many as available for the Zetec. The Zetec is the 'more common' modder in the focus world. The SVT being already modified does get some gains from the aftermarket but not as dramatic as a Zetec. Example, SVT TB's I believe are 66mm or so where the aftermarket one is a 65mm for comparison (a stock TB on the Zetec is 58mm and completely designed differently). Common mods on the SVT are an intake of course (Steeda is a popular one) and things like a VF rear mount and a short throw shifter (also Steeda). Of course exhaust (catbacks, orp, etc) are also common mods to a SVT.

^^^ yea he covered it pretty well.... pretty sure bodykits for a zx3 will fit an SVT no prob, unless its things like a front lip/spoiler type thing. The SVT's do a have zetec in them and alot of parts for regular zetecs will work with an SVT with the exception of things like intakes, throttle bodies, and exhaust...one thing tho, the SVT throttle body (TB) says its 66mm, but i believe that is the measurement for the outside diameter of the TB, where the focus central 65mm is measure from the inside diameter, with a larger outside diameter. Compare the stock w/ a 65mm one and it is very clear which is larger.

Oh yeah good point.... sorry the lip kits (front SVT bumper compared to the non-SVT bumper) don't directly fit. You can make them fit though (Example Xenon front lip on SVT bumper). Good point on the TB size..... thanks for clearing that up for me.

Not bad for a non-SVT guy....

Wow thanks for clearing those things up for me, it makes a lot more sense looking at the afermarket world now. But I do have a question though, why would people still buy aftermarket TB for there SVT when they are the same exact size?

**EDIT**
I take it back, I didn't read it clearly enough that the stock is 'smaller' on the inside diameter than 65mm, I take back my question

(Takes note of the edit) Well, I'll tell you why I'd recommend one. It doesn't get stuck in cold weather and throttle response! It's VERY easy to push in the pedal with an aftermarket one! The stock tb is black plastic, aftermarket ones are anodized aluminum.

Am I glad I have one, HECK YEAH! Am I glad I didn't pay $250 or so for a new one, you betcha! Check the for sale forum for deals!

One common mod that he left out was the aftermarket performance tune ... it is prolly the best bang for your buck as it not only gives the car increased HP and TQ but will correct common drivability issues as well such as surging, high idle speed, etc ... also the added TQ will eliminate the 1st gear bogging that hampers many SVT drivers.
