which royal purple?

I'm at 10,400 and doing a full synthetic change this week . . . is the tranny fluid worth it? what nation wide auto stores have the best prices and carry RP?

should i get it flushed or will it be alright to do it myself in my garage? also - does anyone know of ford dealerships doing this for us if we bring the fluids in?

Yes the tranny fluid is worth it, every thing feels so much smoother when its is done. Sounds corny but with the Royal Purple tranny fluid it feels as if everything is sliding on ice (smoothness wise). I went to a performance car shop (Jegs) but even Pep Boys carrys Royal Purple, most places have it for around $5.50. Just make sure you get the Roayl Purple that has the SAE stamp on the back. The other stuff is raceing oil and will void your warranty. You can't really flush the tranny fluid cause any place you go will tell you they need around 15qt's to get there tranny flush machine fired up. So basicly you would need to buy 15qts of Royal Purple when you only need 2.25 qts. I had a auto shop do mine but all they did was put it on the rack and drain it. He said that with out flushing it all you leave in there is about a half a cup of fluid, he said it wasn't anything to worry about. Hope this helped.

I did a Redline oil change in full synthetic and the difference was noticable...very smooth idle even with the rear motor mount in place, but I didn't flush the tranny, though I was going to, because the SVTs have full synthetic in them and doing so seemed like a waste of money at least until the car actually needed a flushing (I have 35000 km...20000 miles) so I'm gonna wait til the manual calls for a full service and flush, but when I do, Redline will be the choice!

I have contacted every synthetic transmission fluid manufacturer (Mobil, Redline, Royal Purple, Motul, Amsoil, Castrol, etc.). Some claim they have a transmission fluid that will work with the SVT Focus but so far none have documentation that shows their product meets or exceeds Ford's specs. To be safe, I would only use the Ford special synthetic transmission fluid that the car came with.

iRebound, alot of people point this fact out and while it is true you must also consider there are diffrent grades of synthetics and diffrent qualites. Just because it is synthetic does not mean it is all the same. For example doesn't wal-marts brand of oil come in synthetic? So does that mean it is as good as Mobil 1, Royal Purple or Redline? While I'm sure the motorcraft quality of synthetic is ok it is simply not as good as Royal Purple or Redlines. If it was as good as Royal Purple then why the huge diffrence in performance of the tranny with under 15K miles on a car. If it was truely that good you should not be able to tell that much of a diffrence.

Isn't manual tranny fluid maintenance free, or go for quite some time without changing?

I don't know how much RP usually goes for, but the one store I went to sells the oil for like 7.50 a quart! Talk about ripoff!

sorry if i'm going off topic but this sorta relates to the tranny fluid, i recently bought some GM syncromesh because some members from this board and FJ say that they have tested it and say it's excellent stuff, and supposedly it's used by some heavily modded drag cars and such... but anyways to the point. i want to change the tranny fluid, but if i change it will they "void" my warranty because it's not the "Ford" stuff that they reccommend? i'm worried because so many speak of the clutch going under 50k miles and i'm at like 20k miles right now, and if i change my fluid and if my warranty gets void i'm in the Sh@t hole. so can anyone varify if they will void or not?

They say the same thing about oil. Your only supposed to use Motor Craft oil which is bs. Basicly they don't want you using anything other than ford products. As long as what ever you put in your car is the correct specs and is SAE certified they can't do anything about it.
