Need some information on a 2003 SVT....

I'm looking to purchase a SVT focus to run around town in. But before I do, I had a few questions. I've looked through some older threads, but I figure I get some current information, especially regarding pricing.

The cars I'm considering are the following:

Honda Civic Si (only 2 doors, more reliable??)
VW Golf 20th Anniversary Edition (probably just as quick, a bit nicer looking)
Honda Element (yeah, a bit more utiitarian)
Mazda Protege 5 (more room, a little boring)

1. What is the going out the door price people are getting with the 2003 Focus SVT? (I'm looking for a 5 door, possibly with the Euro package). Can I get one out the door for about $18K? Less? Any promotions out right now?

2. Any major issues with this car? I can't find a comprehensive list of persistant problems with this car, possibly due to it's rarity

3. What is Ford Service like? I have experience with german makes (VW is decent, Audi sucks, Porsche is excellent). Frankly, I'm sorta used to the loaner car thing. I hear SVT owners get one as a requirement, but is it only through SVT dealers?

4. Reliability of cars (owners with some time and mileage into these cars). I plan to keep this thing for a while, and I hate paying repeated visits to the dealer for incompetency and/or product issues.

5. Quality issues as far as things holding up?

When and if I get the car, I'll probably add a Quaife LSD and that's about it. Possibly suspension to tighten things up.

TIA

k

Element - ugly and no power
GTI - As i said about the SVT vs. GTI vw are very unreliable
Mazda 5 - don't know much there
Civic - can trick it out very easily but everyone has these where as not many people have the SVT

1. 18k with few options i got every single option for 20k just don't let the dealer screw you do your research

2. I haven't had any real problems except for a check engine light from a stupid emissions monitor besides that shes perfect and runs great

3. Ford Service is good sometimes they get backed up but they can get almost anything done in a day or two

4. As for reliability its a Ford my family has owned over 10 fords and never had major problems not even with my moms escape which had 2 have its engine replaced do to flood damaged Ford has high quality lasting vehicles it may be a little less reliable due to the fact is an SVT though

5. as far as quality the car has an amazing interior ( i have the blue you should check it out) you can get it in 2 or 4 doors some people like the way it looks some don't at first i didn't but i got used 2 it and really like the look but first and farmost is performance if you are a real driver and want a car thats fun and can really drive i recomend one of two cars SVT Focus Subaru WRX my family has both and there the most amazingly fun cars ever for one reason and one only Rally cars are fun 2 drive

The Golf has nothing on the SVT. The GTI is a different story.
My SVT is reliable because its stock. It has a 30,000 bumper to bumber & 100,000 mi. powertrain warranty. I plan to leave it stock for a little while. The Ford isn't the most reliable on your list but its the most badass! Leave it stock & don't worry about the reliability. Warranty = loaner car = reliable.

I got my SVT for $6000 off of MSRP. If you are in Southern California I can probably get you the same deal.

You have a 996 C4s!?! That is a very nice ride, are you in POC or PCA?

Well, I am in PCA, and plan to do POC events once I figure out this car. It's a different beast than the Audi. I only have 10K miles on it, and still learning its quirks with street tires (about to go race tires on them).

I have several friends who do POC/PCA events, and went almost last weekend to Willow Springs as Tony Callas from Callas Rennsport was running in the GT2 class (I think). But I had stuff to do. Although, I had a good ride with Randy Pobst a few weeks ago at Sears Point, er, Infineon.

Yeah, if you can get me a discount that'd be great. My VW is going to be out of the dealer soon and I'll be getting rid of it (part of the reason behind the Focus).

Need something a bit more practical and everyday that I don't have to worry about parking and stuff.

TIA.

No doubt

I wouldn't say it's completely unreliable as my VW has been pretty okay (has 100K miles on it), but there are electrical gremlins. You can thank the germans to make the most complex things even more complex, right down to the cupholders.

I'm just ready for something new. VW is rated third from the bottom in reliability, so I figure I'm better off.

i say this only because most people i know have had problems with their VW's or most European cars for that matter my moms VW bettle had a new problem every week when she had it total lemon and my dads had 1 every couple of weeks i mean what are the chances they were both just lemons not very high if you ask me Ford is a very reliable company in my expierence out of the over 10 fords my family has owned weve had no major problems the ocassional thing goes wrong but not on a regular basis thats why i trust them i know the SVT will give a few more problems just cause its a high maintence SVT vehicle but it will still probably be more reliable the the VW i say go for the ford
