Random Tech. Cat pipe - Initial Impressions

First, removing the pipe from the box revealed a very shiney thing of beauty that couldn't potentially cost me $10000 (fine), cost to get my car out of impound, cost to repair my car after it came out of impound, etc. The build was amazing.

I noticed a bunch of paperwork, warrantee card and my favorite; the "HA! See its legal, now get off my case" card to keep in the glovebox.

Did the install tonight. Did it on the garage floor with jackstands. As I have swapped pipes so many times, WD40 wasnt even needed. 30 minutes later, all the bolts were tight and it was back on all fours.

On initial start up, the car was VERY quiet. Like stock. A few sharp revs produced a nice mellow growl. I went for a drive. The torque from my ORP to RT Pipe is noticable to say the least. Top end doesnt feel any different either. The more I drove (floored the whole time it seems) the louder it started to get. 11.1 miles later, my ORP style idle growl is back. At Wide Open Throttle, I'd put the sound level right between the OEM Cat and ORP. Not too loud, not too quiet...PERFECT. I could actually hear my intake along with the Exhaust. Sounds cool!!

COMPLAINT No bolts, nuts, or gaskets come with the kit. My FC ORP didnt either, so I just reused the parts I bought at the Home Depot. No biggie. Still though, if you are removing the OEM cat and going to the RT pipe, BE PREPARED TO BUY SOME BOLTS AND NUTS!! Oh, and just reuse the metal gaskets, or go buy new ones if it makes you feel better.

..there you have it...

(SVT Monkey, arent you proud..I'm catted! )

great review man, I've been contemplating a RT cat pipe for a while, but I didn't want to be the guinea pig. you gonna post some dyno numbers from before and after since you have such easy access to a dyno? thanks

Yes on the dyno...when I get some time...gotta pull a motor from a Cobra...and then a Lightning...and then I'll see what I can do for ya! ;-)

Re: Price, to my door from McNews was $369.20 but I'm only like 1 hour from them driving, so shipping is minimal... ($359 w/o ship)

Yes, I'd be interested to see if there is a large difference in power between the cat and the ORP.

Day two...sounds the same..feels torquey down low and just as nice as the ORP up top!! Well worth the extra ~$159 over the FC pipe! BUT, I'f I would use the FC ORP for strictly racing if I wanted to swap pipes over. The extra Hp = extra edge...

Several days in and I'm happy with my purchase...the car now has a nice throaty gorwl and an unmistakeable rumble at idle...the torque is starting to really take effect...

DO IT!!
