found some cool info

I am know ready to mod,So as we say "Let the modding begin" I like the 65 fc throttle body, but found that the udp's do not have harmonic balancers so by going with udp's could you not infact damage your engine. I like the msd ignition coil and thought the screamin deamin was nice aswell. But I am leaning twords the MSD coil and live wire w/denzo plugs. I figure msd been in the business for a lontime , so there good with ignitions.I will either do the udp's from fc or modern performance and the msd coil together now, or do the fc 65 throttle body and udp's now. keep in mind I have the 04 svtf w/ short shifter and aem cai at this time, other than those mods she remains stock. I wll do the preditor after my bolt on mods. And also My buddy bought an oil splitter from steeda for his 04 svt mustang cobra. He says we can get it for our svtf's. It takes oil from your pvc or somthing like that and re-directs it back into the actuall oil system or somthing like that. Not real sure how it works and I could be wrong about it, but he installed it on his car and it does work. The reason I ask about the mods is 2 prong. 1.] I want your imput on which mod's to do first and 2.] I want to kow about the harmonic balancers, because I read in ff magazine that the fc udp and most other udp's have no harmonic balancers and therefore by taking the stock pully's off and ading the fc or other udp's you'll get more vibes from the motor. Is this bad? Or is it niether here nor their. Any who let me know what ya'all think.

no, you will not damage the engine by using an underdrive pulley. our stock pulley isn't a harmonic balancer either, our rotating assemblies are internally balanced. as long as the pulley itself if balanced (which is is, unless whoever was handling it dropped it), you won't have any problems

Been using pulleys for 12000 miles and not had a problem with vibs... Only thing i've noticed is more power... I have read that having less weight on the crank actually prolongs engine life! I can't see how that small hard piece of rubber would stop harmonics anyway its all rubbish. People on this site have run UDPs for 100,000+ miles with no problem...

Oh wow! Firstly, you can't feel the vibrations, but trust me, they are there! Secondly, why can't you see a piece of rubber stopping vibrations?

From the previous post...every engine is internally balanced, this has nothing to do with the vibrations that the harmonic balancer controls. There has been a few posts clarifying this.

The truth is, no one knows whether removing the harmonic balancer will cause damage in the longterm and reduce life. You can find out by doing it...I won't take the chance, I like my car. (Who are you referring to that has run 100k+ with UDP's?)

yes, do a search around on this site and there is plenty of debate on what exactly it COULD do, no one has abosolute evidence that the car could actually be damaged by the UPD changing. People have had engine issues with it on, but hard to say if UPD was the cause or just some freak thing.

6*...wow..I thought I was pushing it with 3*

I guess the ST170/ SVT have non interference engines??

Are you sure this is safe to run -6* on the exhaust side??? Cuz If I can get more top end out of it, I'm game!!

From what i've heard -8 is the maximum you can go to but I def wouldn't go tha far.... It was one of our top tuners here in the UK that set it to -6 so if they think its ok then I suppose it is lol.... Change it to -6 and see how yours goes! We have found that you get more from this mod if your car has been remapped... Im not sure why this is though
